Proposed power tariff hike to disturb market: PIAF

LAHORE: Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (PIAF) on Monday feared that proposed hike in industrial and commercial power tariff will disrupt market equilibrium.

PIAF Chairman Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Senior Vice Chairman Tanveer Ahmed Sufi and Vice Chairman Khawaja Shahzeb Akram, in a joint statement here, demanded the government to reconsider the decision to control cost of doing business, one of the reasons of decline in export.

They added that previously, NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) had determined average tariff of Rs 10.9 per unit for 2015-16 which was recently increased by 4.4 per cent to Rs 11.38 per unit, however now it would jump to Rs 12.9 per unit.

PIAF office-bearers rejected hike in the average electricity tariff by NEPRA for 2015-16, citing that it would further enhance cost of doing business and affect the exports.
