Punjab govt holds right to appeal against LHC judgment on Model town: Experts

LAHORE: Legal and constitutional analysts have stated that Sharif-led Punjab government holds right to file appeal against Lahore High Court’s (LHC) judgment as later has compelled earlier to make report of Model Town Incident public.

Analysts urged Punjab govt to make report public at earliest and warned that any delay would generate perception that govt is trying to cover multitude of sins.

“Contempt proceedings would be launched against officials if court’s orders are not implemented as a report should be made public once it is compiled,” stated renowned legal analyst Abid Hussain Manto.

“Govt would be hesitating from implementing LHC’s judgment as there would be penned something against officials. There is no doubt that report can’t be presented in trial court as evidence but ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PMLN) image would certainly be tarnished,” forecasted EX-AG Irfan Qadir.

Two years ago on June 17, an 11-hour clash between Punjab Police and PAT workers left at least 14 dead while around a hundred were wounded.

The violent clash happened as police’s anti-encroachment staff began to remove barriers from the roads that led to offices of Minhajul Quran and Dr Qadri’s residence on Model Town.
