LAHORE: A spring plantation campaign has been launched in the province during which 12 million saplings will be planted in Punjab.
A simple but impressive inaugural ceremony of the Spring Plantation Campaign 2015 held here at 7-Club Road on Thursday.
Provincial Minister for Forest and Fisheries Malik Mohammad Asif Bha Awan inaugurated the campaign after planting a tree on behalf of the Punjab chief minister.
The minister, addressing the ceremony, said more than 4.5 million plants by the Forest Department Punjab, 1.30 million by the Pakistan Army and 5.45 million trees would be planted by the other provincial departments.
He said purpose of the campaign was to create awareness among people to overcome environmental pollution and to meet the challenge of increasing need of energy and timber.
“The Forest Department has set up 200 sale points for providing plants to people on concession rates and farmers will also be given 50 percent financial assistance for plantation over 4,000 acres,” he added.
