Chiniot : Punjab Food Authority’s food safety teams are carrying out a full-scale crackdown against the adulteration mafia. To check the quality, 10,000 liters of milk in 62 milk trucks were checked by setting up roadblocks at the city’s entry and exit points. During the blockade, the food safety team seized the adulterated milk truck. Deputy Director Operations Dr. Muhammad Qasim Raza said that the quantity of milk was increased by mixing ice and water, on which more than 1,200 liters of adulterated milk were destroyed.
Meanwhile, a fine of Rs 43,000 was imposed on several milk shops and milk collection centers by the food safety teams for the poor quality of milk. He said that a fine of Rs 11,000 was imposed on food points for poor cleaning and storage arrangements and the absence of medical screening certificates of workers. A sampling campaign of commercial water plants is also underway to check the quality of drinking water, under which water samples from 2 water plants were collected. Samples were taken and sent for laboratory analysis. In addition, food safety teams conducted 106 inspections and imposed a total of Rs 54,000 in fines for violation of laws. During the inspection, more than one kilogram of expired products and 10 kilograms of spoiled food were also destroyed.
