Pakistan win 4X400m relay gold in 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games

ASHGABAT (Turkmenistan): Pakistan clinched another gold medal in 4X400m relay in the athletic event of the fifth Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games being played here at Indoor Athletic Track on Wednesday.

The four-member relay team for 4X400m comprising Asad Iqbal, Mehboob Ali, Nishat Ali and Nokar Hussain first recorded their best time in the semi-final 3.14.09sec against four other teams Thailand, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

It was the grand final when Pakistan recorded much improved time by winning the gold medal with a time of 3.11.40sec, followed by Qatar with 3.12.58sec and Thailand won the bronze medal with 3.21.21sec, China got fourth position with 3.23.13sec, Vanuatu with 3.29.30sec and Turkmenistan was disqualified by breaking the start.

In the other events of the Athletics,Pakistan shot putter Zeenat Parveen got seventh position by giving a distance of 12.34m. Earlier, Bian Ka of China got gold medal with her distance 17.34m, followed by Elena of Uzbekistan with 16.60m and Lee Soojung of Thailand claimed bronze medal.

In the triple jump, Pakistan’s Mohammad Afzal got 9th position out of total 13 competitors by giving a distance of 14.73m, Arpinder Singh of India won gold medal in the same with a distance of 16.21m, followed by Tepparak Pratchaya of Thailand with 15.89m got silver medal and Al Mannai Rashid Ahmad of Qatar got bronze medal with 15.85m distance.

With victory of another gold medal, Pakistan slipped to 15th position with two gold medal, two silver medal and 13 bronze medals, completing a tally of 17 medals. The host Turkmenistan raced up to 124 medals, 52 gold, 35 silver and 37 bronze medal, Iran is on second with 39 medals including 10 gold, six silver and 23 bronze medal, Kazakhstan took 30 medals with seven gold, 8 silver and 15 bronze medal. Pakistan is behind Uzbekistan, Thailand, UAE, India, Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, and Saudi Arabia.
