ASHGABAT, (Turkmenistan): Pakistan’s Mohammad Sajjad moved to the semi-finals of the 6-Red Snooker Singles semi-final after defeating Ali Alobaidli of Qatar in the quarter-finals played here at Olympian City Complex on Wednesday.
There was a tough battle between Mohammad Sajjad and Ali Alobaidli of Qatar as both were locked 1-1 and 2-2 in the first four frames, giving each other a tough fight before Sajjad marched into victory.
Former World No. 2 and three times Asian Championship silver medalist Mohammad Sajjad faced tough resistance in the first frame he won with a difference of just one point 35-34. The hot fought battle was witnessed by jam-packed spectators. Sajjad of Pakistan also received thundering applauses from the sitting spectators. Mohammad Sajjad has 21 point
It was one side affairs when Al Obaidli Ali Nasser of Qatar won by 6-45 by leveling the tally 1-1. Al Obaidli Ali Nasser recorded a break of 27 points. Mohammad Sajjad again took the third frame by 51-14 wherein he hits a break of 19 points against 14 by Al Obaidli Ali Nasser of Qatar.
On the other hand, the lead of Sajjad was again leveled by winning the fourth frame 8-51. He hits a break of 19 points.
It was the fifth frame in which Mohammad Sajjad, who also remained as silver medalist of the World Team Championship, won the frame by 41-21 and the sixth at 45-0 in a one-sided affair. The seven frames was mostly a ball-to-ball process and both Mohammad Sajjad and Al Obaidli Ali Nasser of Qatar tried their hard for making snooker. Mohammad Sajjad played with determination and adopted attacking strategy by exhibited some beautiful potting. It was a tough battle as once Qatar player was struggle at 23-7 but he came back and raced up to finish the frame at 23-41, hitting a break of 13. Sajjad has better chance to finish the frame but he could not make it on two key occasions, missing first the white and then the black.
In the last frame Sajjad could not give much time to his rival and won the eight frames by 51-0 besides recording a break of 38 points. Thus Sajjad moved to the semi-finals. Sajjad will now face Yan Bingato of China on Thursday.
