ISLAMABAD: The Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games 2017 will be held from December 7-11 here at Pakistan Sports Complex, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) announced on Monday.
The decision to the effect was taken after threadbare discussions, held in a meeting at PSB under the chairmanship of PSB Director General Mohammad Akhtar Nawaz, said a news release issued here.The meeting attended by all the stakeholders was held to discuss and finalize the arrangements for holding the games. Directors sports from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, FATA and Islamabad Sports Boards and all deputy directors general of PSB attended the meeting. The PSB DG informed the participants that the basic objective of the Quaid-e-Azam Games was to create an environment conducive for promoting national harmony by engaging the youth in healthier activities and providing opportunities of festivity, entertainment and pleasure to them. Other objectives of the project, he said, were to explore new talent in sports.
He said there was a need to revive interest in sports among the general public and create sports culture in the country to promote national health and raise national fitness level. Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC), Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada, who is also President of PSB, will request Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to inaugurate the games, whereas President Mamnoon Hussain will be requested to attend the closing ceremony as chief guest.
It was also decided that competitions in 13 disciplines, including Athletics (Men/Women),
Badminton (Men/Women), Hockey (Men/Women), Judo (Men/Women), Karate (Men/Women), Netball (Men/Women), Squash (Men/Women), Table Tennis (Men/Women), Taekwondo (Men), Weightlifting (Men), Tennis (Men/Women), Volleyball (Men/Women)and Wrestling (Men) will be held in the games and the winners will be awarded cash prizes.
All the participating boards have been requested to organize the training camps for
effective preparation and participation in the Games. They have also been advised to finalize requirement of their contingent and the same must be submitted to the PSB before October 25.
The meeting unanimously decided that the age limit of the participating
players will be under 25 years upto December 31, 2017. No departmental players will
be eligible to participate in this event. The House also discussed and finalized the entitlement of the participating teams, technical officials and volunteers.
The DG PSB said that games would be organized under the aegis of national sports federations. The federations will be responsible for the technical conduct of the games.
