Woman dies, little daughter injured in road mishap


Bahawalpur: A woman has lost her life and her two-year-old daughter was injured when a motorcycle rickshaw overturned after veering off the road near in Chak No. 105/DB Tehsil Yazman.



According to Rescue 1122 report, a motorcycle rickshaw was travelling from Yazman to Cholistani area when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to leave the road and overturn. ‘As a result of the accident, Shehnaz Bibi, wife of Ramzan, aged 50 and a resident of Bhata Colony, Yazman, sustained a severe open head injury and died at the scene,’ they said, adding that her two-year-old daughter, Arman Fatima, daughter of Ali Haider, suffered a deep cut to her right leg.



Rescue personnel shifted the deceased woman’s body and the injured child to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Yazman. The body of the woman was handed over to the heirs. Doctors have been providing medical treatment to the little baby.

BISP, PSDF sign MoU to provide vocational training to women, youth


Islamabad: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on providing market-driven vocational training to Punjab’s most vulnerable segments, particularly women and youth, under the Benazir Hunarmand Programme.



The MoU signing ceremony was held at the PSDF office in Lahore. The ceremony was attended by Director General CI BISP Syeda Adeela Bokhari, Director General Punjab BISP Haider Murtaza, Deputy Director (NSER Punjab) Roheena Iqbal, Focal Person Benazir Hunarmand Programme Humaira Farooq, Regional Outreach Coordinator (Punjab) Benazir Hunarmand Programme Nayab Jan, PSDF Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Khan, Manager Program Design Ummara Zeeshan, Jafar Ali, Specialist Program Design, and other officials.



Under the partnership, BISP will mobilise eligible beneficiaries through its regional network and the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER), enabling deserving women and youth to access quality vocational training opportunities. In addition to beneficiary mobilisation through BISP’s outreach mechanism, eligible candidates will also be able to self-register through the Benazir Hunarmand Portal, ensuring wider accessibility and participation in the programme.



As part of the collaboration, PSDF will provide market-driven vocational training, learning materials, stipends where applicable, and co-branded certifications recognised by the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) and aligned with the Higher Education Commission’s National Vocational Qualifications Framework (NVQF).



The partnership aims to establish a structured graduation pathway from social protection to sustainable employment by equipping beneficiaries with industry-relevant skills, enhancing their employability, and creating better livelihood opportunities.



Through this initiative, BISP and PSDF seek to empower vulnerable women and youth with market-oriented technical and vocational skills, enabling them to achieve economic self-reliance and contribute to the country’s workforce and economic development.

Police kill two wanted suspects, rescue kidnapped woman in joint operation


Attock: The police killed two alleged proclaimed offenders during a joint operation and rescued a woman abducted for a Rs 50 million ransom, the police said on Friday.



The operation, carried out by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in cooperation with Haripur police, targeted suspects accused of involvement in kidnapping for ransom, terrorism, armed robbery, targeted killings, sexual assault and extortion.



The police said the raid took place in the Dhenda Bypass area within the jurisdiction of Khallabat police station, Haripur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.



The operation was led by CCD Attock District Officer, Yasir Matloob Kiani and Inspector Syed Imran Haider Kazmi, with support from Haripur Police and the Elite Police Force.



According to police, the main target, identified as Zarghamullah, his father Khalid Mehmood Khan allegedly opened fire on security personnel when the police team attempted to arrest them.



The police said the exchange of gunfire lasted for more than two hours.



They that the suspects used members of their own family as human shields during the confrontation, but officers safely evacuated the family before continuing the operation.



After the shooting ended, the police recovered the bodies of Zarghamullah and his father. Several other alleged accomplices escaped during the exchange of fire, and a search operation was launched to trace them.



In a follow-up intelligence-based raid on another hideout linked to the suspects, the police rescued a woman who had allegedly been kidnapped in a case registered on July 14 at Attock City Police Station.



The victim was allegedly abducted for a ransom demand of 50 million rupees, the police said.



They said the area was sealed off during the operation to minimise risks to civilians. The bodies were transferred to the Trauma Centre in Haripur for post-mortem examinations, while investigations continued.



District Police Officer Attock eulogized the CCD team for its handling of the operation. Senior CCD Punjab officials also commended the officers for their professionalism and bravery.

IHC directs NCCIA to provide details of allegations to Journalist


Islamabad: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to provide journalist Asad Toor with complete details of the allegations against him before proceeding further, disposing of his petition against the agency’s summons notice.



Justice Muhammad Azam Khan heard the petition challenging the NCCIA notice. Advocate Ataullah Kundi appeared on behalf of the petitioner.



During the hearing, Justice Azam Khan asked why the petitioner was not appearing before the agency, observing, “Why are you not appearing? Do you not have a defence?”



Counsel for the petitioner replied that his client was unaware of the allegations. “We do not even know what the allegations are. How can we respond without knowing them?” he argued.



The counsel further contended that under the law, an accused must be provided with complete particulars of the allegations before any proceedings.



Justice Azam Khan observed that the court would dispose of the petition after directing the NCCIA to furnish the petitioner with all details of the allegations.



Advocate Kundi agreed with the proposal, stating that it was the relief sought in the petition.



The court subsequently disposed of the petition with directions to the NCCIA to provide the petitioner with the details of the allegations.

Seminar on justice systems of Pakistan-China proposed to strengthen institutional relations


Peshawar: Prominent legal expert and Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan, Ali Zaman has proposed holding a seminar on justice systems of Pakistan and China so that the legal frameworks and judicial systems of both countries could be studied and compared.



He expressed these views during his visit to China Window, the Chinese cultural and information centre established in Peshawar.



He said that the proposed seminar would provide legal experts, lawyers, academics and students with an opportunity to understand the judicial structures, legal traditions and dispute-resolution mechanisms of both countries.



Such an initiative could also help identify areas where legal institutions and professional bodies of Pakistan and China could exchange knowledge and experiences.



Ali Zaman Advocate emphasized that relations between Pakistan and China should be strengthened not only through economic and development cooperation but also through institutional, academic and professional exchanges.



He observed that interaction between lawyers and legal scholars of the two countries could contribute to greater mutual understanding and open new avenues of cooperation in the field of law and justice.



The proposed seminar could include discussions on constitutional frameworks, the functioning of courts, access to justice, legal education, commercial laws and the role of modern technology in judicial proceedings.



Participation by senior lawyers, judges, researchers and representatives of academic institutions would make the event an effective platform for meaningful dialogue.



Ali Zaman Advocate described China Window as an important milestone in Pakistan-China friendship.



He said that China Window is playing a commendable role in creating awareness about Pakistan-China friendship in Peshawar and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.



Ali Zaman expressed the hope that China Window would continue to promote people-to-people contacts by organizing cultural, educational and awareness activities related to China and Pakistan-China relations.



He said that the proposed legal seminar would add a new dimension to these efforts by bringing together members of the legal community and encouraging dialogue on the judicial systems of the two friendly countries.

Sindh Governor, US delegation discuss multi-sector investment ties


Karachi: Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met a high-level delegation of American business leaders at the Governor House on Friday.



The meeting focused on promoting investment in Pakistan particularly in Sindh and explored opportunities for cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), infrastructure, dairy, livestock, agriculture, information technology and other key sectors.



The delegation was led by Muhammad Hanif Channa of the Embassy of Pakistan in the United States.
