PPSC announces three written and 10 final results of 4 departments


Lahore: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has announced three written and 10 final results of 4 departments.



Among the candidates, seven candidates have been declared successful for the interview for 18 posts of Stenographer in the Board of Revenue, Deputy Commissioner Office Rawalpindi.



The successful candidates include Fatima Mukhtar, Anam Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Usmanuddin, Rayan Ahmed Mughal and Seemab Hanif.



One candidate has been declared successful for the interview for three posts of Stenographer in the Board of Revenue, Deputy Commissioner Office Gujarat.

Balochistan govt taking steps to provide quality sports facilities to youth: Meena Majeed


Quetta: Advisor to Chief Minister for Sports Meena Majeed Baloch on Friday said that the Balochistan government is taking practical steps to provide quality sports facilities to the youth.

She said this while inaugurating, Sports Board Cricket Academy after renovation and upgradation by the Sports Department of the Government of Balochistan at the Ayub Sports Complex.

On this occasion Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs Dura Baloch was also present.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Additional Secretary Sports Sajjad Aslam, District Sports Officer Quetta Arsalan Khan, Academy Coach Bashir Magsi, Academy Coach Arbab Shakir and other officials, along with players of the academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Adviser for Sports Meena Majeed Baloch said that we have continuously visited the Cricket Academy and reviewed the problems faced and the existing facilities in detail, after which it was decided to improve and upgrade the academy.

She said that earlier there were only two cricket pit
ches in the academy, the number of which has been increased to ten, while high-quality nets have also been installed on all the pitches.

In addition, the dressing rooms and washrooms have been completely renovated and made functional, tuff tiles have been installed on the floor, a water filtration system has been installed for clean drinking water and the problem of electricity has also been resolved.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary Sports Dura Baloch said that Balochistan cricketers have demonstrated their best abilities at every level.

He said that the main objective of the sports department is to provide modern training facilities to young players so that they could achieve significant successes in national and international competitions in the future.

GCWUS pays tribute to Fatima Jinnah on birth anniversary


Sialkot: Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) on Friday paid a rich tribute to Fatima Jinnah and marked her birth anniversary with great respect, a release said.



Today marks the birth anniversary of Madar-e-Millat (Mother of the Nation), Ms. Fatima Jinnah. She was born on 31 July 1893 in Karachi. She was a prominent leader of the Pakistan Movement and the sister of the Founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.



Ms. Fatima Jinnah was an inspiring leader who stood firmly beside Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah throughout the Pakistan Movement. Her significant contributions included awakening political awareness among Muslim women, actively supporting the Pakistan Movement, and caring for refugees after the creation of Pakistan.



She earned a degree in Dental Surgery from Calcutta and later established her own dental clinic in Bombay.



She brought together Muslim women of the Indian subcontinent on a common platform, encouraging them to become politically and socially active. In 1937, she founded the All India Muslim League Women’s Committee, which played a vital role in spreading the message of the Pakistan Movement among women.



After the establishment of Pakistan in 1947, she worked tirelessly for the rehabilitation of refugees and the provision of medical assistance.



In 1951, Ms. Fatima Jinnah inaugurated the Government College for Women, Sialkot. In 2013, the institution was upgraded to the Government College Women University Sialkot. Today, it is the only university in Sialkot District and the only women’s university in the Gujranwala Division, with more than 11,000 female students currently enrolled.

Low-level flood at Kalabagh, Chashma in the Indus River


Lahore: According to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), water flow in most rivers of the province is normal, while there is low-level flood at Kalabagh and Chashma locations of the Indus River.



According to the PDMA spokesperson, the water level in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers is normal, while the water flow in the river attachments of Dera Ghazi Khan is also normal.



According to the PDMA, the water flow in Kalabagh is 263000 cusecs, while in Chashma it is 294000 cusecs. There is moderate flood at Nala Palkho in Wazirabad, Gujranwala, where the water flow in Nullah Palkhoo is 3600 cusecs. Similarly, the low-level flood situation persists in Nullah Basantar in Narowal.



The PDMA has said that the fourth series of monsoon rains is predicted to continue till August 5. Due to the expected rains in the upper catchments, there is a possibility of an increase in the flow of water in the eastern rivers and their adjacent rivers.



According to DG PDMA Saif Anwar Jappa, urban flooding is expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan, while there is a risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat and other hilly areas.



He directed the citizens present in the riverbeds to immediately move to safer places and said that the Punjab government has set up flood relief camps in the affected areas, where the provision of basic facilities and medicines will be ensured.



The PDMA has appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the weather and flood situation, avoid unnecessary travel and recreation on the banks of rivers, canals and streams, while children should never be allowed to bathe in rivers and streams.

Pakistan always fully supports right of Kashmiri people to self-determination: Syedal Khan


Quetta: Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir on Friday said that the services of the Kashmiri people living in Balochistan for the development and prosperity of the province are not hidden from anyone.



He said that all possible steps would be taken to resolve the problems being faced by the Kashmiri people, Balochistan is a common home for all of us, for the construction and development of which we would have to work together.



He said this while talking to various delegations called on him here.



Kashmiris living in Balochistan were also among the delegations. The delegations included Tariq Butt Advocate, Javed Ahmed Khan, Jahangir Khan Kharoti, Sameera Khan, Mir Zaman Lehri, Mir Liaquat, Liaquat Rajput and others.



During the meetings, the overall political situation of the country, federal development projects underway in the province, and other issues were discussed.



The delegations informed Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir about the problems being faced by the people in detail, on which the Deputy Chairman assured to resolve the issues.



Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir said that Pakistan has always fully supported the right of the Kashmiri people to self-determination and openly condemned the Indian atrocities on the Kashmiris.



He said that Pakistan would continue to support the Kashmiri people in the future saying that the Kashmiri people have been living in Balochistan like brothers for centuries and their services for the development and prosperity of the province are not hidden from anyone.



He said that Balochistan is the common home of all the nations living here, whose development and prosperity is the responsibility of all of us, every possible effort would be made to resolve the problems faced by the Kashmiri people living in Quetta and other areas of Balochistan.



During the meeting, the coordinators of the Deputy Chairman Senate informed Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir in detail about their performance in one month and the resolution of the problems of the people of the province.



Syedal Khan Nasir said that in order to maintain close contact with the people, he has appointed coordinators so that they could find out the problems of the people and convey them to him and practical steps would be taken to solve these problems.

Pakistan, FAO commit to joint action for sustainable agriculture, rural development


Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain on Friday chaired a high-level meeting with Robert Simpson, Deputy Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and reviewed ongoing cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in climate-resilient agriculture, food security and sustainable agricultural development.



Welcoming the FAO delegation, the Federal Minister appreciated FAO’s longstanding partnership with Pakistan and acknowledged its valuable support in strengthening the country’s agriculture and food systems.



He noted that Pakistan was among the countries most vulnerable to climate change despite its negligible contribution to global carbon emissions and emphasized the need for enhanced technical assistance and timely implementation of ongoing projects.



The FAO delegation briefed the minister on key areas of collaboration, including the One Health Programme, food safety and phytosanitary (SPS) systems, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), sustainable agricultural mechanization, climate resilience under the Indus River Basin Programme, and the use of GIS, remote sensing and agrometeorological technologies to support climate-smart agriculture.



Robert Simpson also proposed organizing a National Climate Forum in collaboration with the Ministry to bring together government, development partners and the private sector to strengthen climate action in agriculture.



The minister welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to climate-resilient agricultural development.



Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted the government’s priorities, including strengthening food safety and SPS systems, promoting climate-resilient certified seeds through NASDRA, expanding agricultural mechanization and storage infrastructure, establishing Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), implementing the One District, One Product initiative in selected underdeveloped districts, enhancing livestock exports through improved disease control, and reducing dependence on imported wheat and edible oil.



The FAO delegation informed the minister that it would continue supporting Pakistan in mobilizing funding from international financial institutions and development partners. Both sides also discussed FAO’s upcoming policy report on Pakistan’s food production and nutrition needs, as well as the One Country One Priority Product (OCOP) initiative, under which Pakistan was participating with Chilgoza, while Chaunsa Mango has been proposed for inclusion.



The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, livestock development and food security for the benefit of Pakistan’s farming community.
