Chiniot: District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif on Tuesday reviewed the progress of investigations in important criminal cases and reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring timely justice and improving public service delivery.

During a meeting held to hear complaints from petitioners in significant cases, the DPO examined the status of investigations and the arrest of suspects. He directed the concerned police officers to conduct investigations strictly on merit and ensure that all cases were handled impartially and without unnecessary delay.

Dr. Naveed Atif said the district police were taking practical steps to improve public service delivery and provide timely justice in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said senior police officers were closely supervising the investigation of important cases to ensure transparency and accountability.

The DPO urged citizens to approach his office directly if their grievances were not addressed at the police station level, assuring them that their complaints would be heard without hesitation. He said the district police would utilize all available resources to ensure the provision of justice and the protection of citizens’ rights.

Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Tuesday directed the authorities to accelerate work on major hydropower and water resource projects, emphasizing timely completion to strengthen irrigation, energy production and water supply in the province.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, the chief minister assessed progress on the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) Lift Canal, Mohmand Dam, New Munda Headworks and Dasu Hydropower Project. Senior federal and provincial officials, including WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Saeed, attended the meeting.

Afridi instructed the relevant departments to expedite land acquisition for the CRBC Lift Canal Project and ensure adequate security for project staff. He said the scheme would significantly expand cultivable land and enhance agricultural productivity, adding that the provincial government would continue to provide its share of funding on a priority basis.

The meeting was informed that construction on the CRBC Lift Canal was progressing under multiple work packages, while the Mohmand Dam Project has achieved substantial progress and was expected to provide irrigation, hydropower generation and a reliable supply of drinking water upon completion.

The chief minister also reviewed the progress of the Dasu Hydropower Project and New Munda Headworks, directing all concerned agencies to improve coordination and promptly resolve implementation issues. He stressed that these strategic projects would contribute to national energy security, sustainable water management and long-term economic development.

Hyderabad: The District Child Protection Unit Hyderabad, operating under the Sindh Child Protection Authority and the Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh, organized a child protection awareness session at the Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium of the Sindh Museum, Hyderabad.

Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon attended the event as the chief guest. The session was attended by officials from the district administration, police, Social Welfare Department, Information Department, representatives of social organizations, teachers, students and other stakeholders.

The program aimed to raise awareness about children’s rights, child protection, child marriage, child labour, prevention of violence against children and to strengthen coordination among relevant institutions.

Addressing the gathering, District Child Protection Officer Shizza Fatima said that the Sindh Child Protection Authority was working in collaboration with various institutions to protect children from physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse, child labour, forced begging and early marriage.

She urged parents to provide children with a safe and supportive environment, monitor their online activities and immediately report any incidents of abuse or exploitation to the relevant authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon said that a child’s proper upbringing begins at home and stressed that parents should instill social awareness, discipline and safety consciousness in their children from an early age.

He said the district administration had taken effective measures to eliminate child labour and ensure the rehabilitation, education and counselling of affected children, adding that these efforts would continue in the future. He also called upon all relevant departments and parents to jointly fulfill their responsibility in ensuring a safe and secure future for children.

During the event, students delivered speeches and presented tableaus highlighting children’s rights, the importance of education and the elimination of child labour. Shields were also presented to officials of participating departments in recognition of their contributions.

On the occasion, District Child Protection Officer Shizza Fatima also distributed wheelchairs among children with special needs.

Sargodha: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Sargodha on Tuesday arrested a Patwari for accepting a bribe for land transfer in Khushab district. According to an ACE spokesperson, the operation was carried out under the special directives of Director General Anti-Corruption Punjab Sohail Zafar Chatta and the supervision of Regional Director ACE Sargodha Mudassar Hanif Bhatti.

Circle Officer Azhar Javed Bajwa, accompanied by Magistrate Ahmed Waqas, conducted the raid and recovered marked currency notes amounting to Rs 25,000 from the possession of the accused, Najmul Hassan. The spokesperson added that a citizen, Raza Haider, had filed a complaint stating that the Patwari was demanding Rs 25,000 for processing an inheritance transfer after already receiving Rs 5,000 previously.

The ACE team caught the official at the moment of the transaction and registered a case against him for further investigation.

Burewala: The police arrested four alleged members of a theft gang and recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 430,000 along with an illegal weapons, the police spokesperson said on Tuesday.

The arrests were made during a crackdown under the jurisdiction of Sheikh Fazil Police Station in Vehari district on the instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Tassawar Iqbal, he added.

The suspects had been identified as Waseem, Ghulam Murtaza, Sultan and Ali Raza, he added. The recovered items included a Honda motorcycle, a cow, maize, cash and other stolen property with a combined estimated value of Rs 430,000.

The police also seized a 30-bore pistol form their possessions, the spokesperson said.

The raid was carried out by a police team led by Sheikh Fazil Station House Officer (SHO) Rao Yasar Nawaz. DPO Tassawar Iqbal said that the police would further intensify operations against organised and active criminal gangs across the district as part of ongoing efforts to curb crimes.

Rawalpindi: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF)on Tuesday conducted four operations in different parts of the country and arrested three suspects, including a woman, recovering 42.7 kilograms(kgs) of narcotics worth more than Rs 8.2 million.

According to an ANF spokesperson, the operations targeted both international drug trafficking and domestic narcotics smuggling networks.

In an international drug interdiction operation at Islamabad International Airport, ANF recovered 42,000 ecstasy tablets weighing 5.6 kgs from the luggage of a passenger travelling to Riyadh. In a domestic operation near GT Road in Dina, Jhelum district, officials recovered 19.1 kgs of ice concealed in six carton rolls and arrested the suspect.

In another raid near Faisalabad, ANF seized 12 kgs of hashish, two pistols, four magazines and 33 rounds of ammunition from a house and arrested a woman. In a separate operation near Hayatabad, Peshawar, officials recovered six kgs of hashish from a motorcycle.

Cases have been registered under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA), 1997, while further investigations are underway.
