Karachi: Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori on Monday presented a bouquet and sweets to Consul General of Qatar, Nayef Shahein R.M. Alsulaiti, at the Qatar Consulate here to honor him on Qatar's active role in the Gaza ceasefire agreement, recognizing it as a crucial contribution to regional peace. Upon his arrival, the Consul General and diplomatic staff gave the Sindh Governor a warm welcome. During his meeting with the Qatar's Consul General, the Governor Sindh emphasized the strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar over time. He noted that Qatari investments have significantly contributed to reducing poverty and unemployment in the region. The Governor urged Qatari investors to take advantage of the province's lucrative sectors. During the meeting, both sides discussed Pakistan-Qatar bilateral relations, investment opportunities, trade enhancement, and other key matters. The Consul General expressed Qatar's desire to see Pakistan thrive economically and maintain its strategic defe nse role in the region.

Karachi: The first meeting of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi's governing body held the other day, under the leadership of President Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Mohammad Ahmed Shah.

According to press release, during the meeting, governing body approved the formation of 17 sub-committees and selected five key members to further contribute to the Council's mission. Additionally, five co-opted members were selected, whose inclusion was unanimously approved.

These members include renowned scholar Dr. Jaffer Ahmed, educationalist Alya Iqbal Naqvi, famous anchorperson Wasim Badami, social figure Chand Gul Shah, and Honorary Consul General of Spain, prominent businessman Ghouse Akbar.

The members of the Governing Body provided valuable suggestions for the further improvement of the Arts Council. They acknowledged that the Arts Council has now become the largest institution in the country, playing an essential role in promoting art and culture as well as reducing hatred.

The newly formed committees include Dr. Huma Mir, who will serve as a member of the Administration and Member Liaison Committee, Dr. S.M. Qaisar Sajjad, who will handle the Medical and Social Welfare Committee, Mohammad Iqbal Latif, who will oversee the Special Event and Stage Show Committee, Dr. Ambareen Hasib Amber, who will be part of the Literary and Poetry Committee, and Ghazi Salah Uddin, who will be responsible for the Press and Publication Committee. Other members include Syed Sajid Hasan for the Drama Committee, Muhammad Ayoub Shaikh for the Folk and Heritage Committee, Akhlaq Ahmed Khan for the Literature Fiction Committee, Amjad Hussain Shah for the Music Committee, Abdullah Sultan for the Youth Committee, and Farrukh Tanveer Shahab for the Fine Arts Committee. Dr. Amjad Siraj Memon will head the Health Awareness Committee, while Dr. Jaffer Ahmed will be responsible for the Research, Documentation and Library Committee. Alya Iqbal Naqvi will serve on the Education Committee, Wasim Bad ami will manage the Electronic Media Committee, Chand Gul Shah will handle the Women Empowerment Committee, and Honorary Consul General of Spain, prominent businessman Ghouse Akbar will lead the Diplomatic and Corporate Liaison Committee.

Karachi: Sindh Minister for Health Azra Pechuho dismissed the news of the spread of COVID-19 in Karachi, terming it false.

Dr Azra said upon testing more than 100 people, seven were found positive for COVID-19.

She said that corona virus tests were conducted as a precautionary measure on people with seasonal flu and influenza.

"COVID-19-positive individuals has very mild flu-like symptoms. Due to mild symptoms, individuals infected with Covid-19 were sent home," the minister said, adding that the contagious disease was now being treated like the flu worldwide.

"COVID-19 is now like a seasonal flu, there is absolutely no need to panic," Dr Azra maintained.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Health Department has directed all the district health offices to implement measures to prevent surge in COVID-19 and H1N1 influenza cases across the province.

Viewing the ongoing winter season and the diseases' spread, the health department said that the implementation of the urgent measures were imperative to keep the upsurge and further transmission.

Karachi: One person was killed in a firing incident that occurred near Nipa Pull area of Karachi, tv channels quoting police reported on Monday.

According to details, unknown assailant opened fire and killed a motorcyclist crossing the Nipa Pull area of Karachi.

The police reached the site and shifted the body of ill-fated person identified as Zubair to nearby hospital.

Police are investigating the matter.
