Lahore: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said on Sunday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its workers had witnessed tough times in past.

Talking to the media here, he said that the PML-N workers had faced jails, court and police stations. He said that everyone was witness to the arrest of Mian Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Hamza Shehbaz, adding that during hearings in courts, the PML-N leaders were kept away from media.

Sacrifices of party workers could not be forgotten, he said and added that the PML-N leaders had given a lot of sacrifices for democracy. Attaullah Tarar said that hardships, which PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his family had faced could not be described in words. He said that the desire would always remain alive that Mian Nawaz Sharif should have spent time with the late Kalsoom Nawaz, her wife, during her last moments. He said, "We pay tribute to all our workers who have passed away."

The federal minister said that it was very sorrowful that Syed Hassan Asghar, affectionately known as 'Gudu Shah' had passed away. He said that it was government's top priority to solve problems of the party workers. He said that he wanted that if today workers organising committee was formed, then a party worker should be the head of that committee.

Attaullah Tarar said that recommendations of the organising committee would be implemented. He said that the late Chaudhry Ateeq and Gudu Shah had rendered a lot of services for the party. He said that there should be secretariat where details of workers regarding their joining of party should be maintained, adding that he would talk to party's Lahore president in this regard.

PML-N leaders Khawaja Saad Rafique and Pervaiz Rashid also spoke.

Alhamra Chairman Razi Ahmed described Punjab's culture as a treasure trove of music, dance, literature, and art, highlighting the importance of preserving the heritage for future generations. Alhamra Executive Director Syed Tauqeer Haider Kazmi echoed the sentiments, stating that the festival embodies 'a profound vision of cultural cohesion and collective spirit". He praised the Punjab government, organisers, and contributors for their dedication in making the event a success.

Lahore: Punjab University’s Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICET) hosted an on-campus recruitment drive, ‘Catalyst Drive 2025’, organised by Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC) for BSc Chemical, Electrical Engineering, and Applied Chemistry students on Sunday.

The event was attended by ICET Director Prof. Dr. Syed Nadir Hussain, FFC officials, faculty members, and a large number of students. In his address, Dr. Hussain highlighted the importance of strengthening academia-industry collaboration to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical applications. He encouraged future partnerships to support research initiatives in climate change, carbon capture, advanced materials, student scholarships, and industrial problem-solving projects. He also commended Dr. Ayyaz Muhammad and Dr. Usman Rashid for their efforts in organising a successful event.

The FFC representatives delivered a presentation outlining the company’s role in the fertilizer industry and its commitment to innovation.
They also provided career insights, stressing the importance of skill development and industry readiness.

Meanwhile, Punjab University awarded a PhD degree in History to Rahat Ara, daughter of Zamir Akhtar, following the approval of her thesis titled ‘British East India Company, Its Economic Activities and Impact in India (1700-1799)’.

Lahore: As many as 1,200 accused have been arrested and 1,142 cases registered over violation of the Anti-Kite Flying Act across Punjab, this year so far.

Furthermore, the spokesperson revealed that over 75,700 kites, more than 2,600 string wheels, and charge sheets for over 840 cases have been submitted. In Lahore alone, 350 accused were arrested, 351 cases were registered, and more than 17,700 kites and 552 string wheels were recovered. Last year, a total of 12,525 accused were arrested and 11,866 cases were registered across Punjab, including Lahore.

Lahore: More than 467,000 citizens availed various policing services at Khidmat Marakaz across Punjab in a single month, a police spokesperson reported on Sunday.

Among the services provided inckluded 287,000 people underwent general police verification; 86,600 obtained police character certificates; 47,200 registered their tenancy agreements; 10,180 received medicolegal certificates; 10,580 individuals from vulnerable sections were provided with legal and social security assistance. As manys as 3,985 citizens had their vehicles verified; 7,597 registered documents for loss, while 422 filed crime reports; 12,300 obtained FIR copies, and five cases of violence against women were registered. Also, 850 citizens registered their employees, while 78 had their private employees verified.

Lahore: Under Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's leadership, the 'Punjab Dhi Rani' programme has reached a major milestone with the successful completion of its first phase, organising 1,500 collective weddings.

On Sunday, CM Maryam Nawaz expressed her affection for every daughter in Punjab, stating that she feels immense joy whenever a daughter's home is established.

The second phase of the programme has now begun, with applications open for another 1,500 collective weddings. Interested applicants can apply online through cm.punjab.gov.pk or submit applications at the Deputy Director Social Welfare's district office.

To facilitate applicants, a dedicated helpline (1312) has been established for program-related information.

Beyond the wedding ceremonies, the Punjab government will provide a meal for the bride, groom, and close relatives. Newlyweds will also receive a marriage gift of Rs. 100,000 via ATM from CM Punjab, along with essential household items, including furniture and clothing, to help them start their new lives.

CM Maryam Nawaz said that the 'Punjab Dhi Rani' programme reflected her deep love for her province's daughters. 'Every daughter is dear to us, and it is a joy to see them start their families,' she stated. The initiative primarily aims to support underprivileged and marginalised communities, reinforcing the government's commitment to social welfare.

She said that caring for daughters and offering them support is a cherished tradition in Punjab. 'This is both a cultural and social responsibility that we hold dear,' she added.
