Lahore: Provincial Minister for Auqaf Chaudhry Shafay Hussain paid a visit to shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh Ali Hajveri (RA) here on Thursday and reviewed progress on the expansion project.

He was given a detailed briefing by Secretary Auqaf Dr. Tahir Raza Bukhari. The minister attended an award distribution ceremony at Jamia Hajveria as the chief guest, where he congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to spread the message of Islam, tolerance, and unity in society. "It is an honour and a matter of pride for me to be part of this prestigious event," he said.

Highlighting key initiatives, Chaudhry Shafay announced that funds had been released for renovation of madrasas, and the process of making Khatam-un-Nabiyeen University operational has begun. He said that students from madrasas would now have access to MPhil and PhD programmes at the university. Expressing regret over the underutilisation of the Quran Academy building, he assured that it would soon be utilised for promotion of religious education.

On the Palestine issue, he strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities against Muslims, stating that over 40,000 innocent lives have been lost. He said that mere condemnation was not enough and called for Muslim unity to put an end to oppression.

During the ceremony, 122 students of Jamia Hajveria were honoured with the traditional turban (Dastarbandi), signifying their completion of religious education.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Islamic Ideology Council Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi urged the graduates to contribute to development of the nation.

At the end of the ceremony, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain and Dr. Tahir Raza Bukhari distributed certificates and cash prizes among position-holding students.

Lahore: The vice president of Ericsson Company along with a delegation visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority Headquarters (PSCA) here on Tuesday. The delegation included Country Manager Amir Ahsan, Strategic Threat Analysis Lead Mattias Loof, and others. The delegation was briefed on the operations of the institution by Operations Commander SP Muhammad Shafique Ahmad. The delegation was given a briefing on various sectors, including Pakistan's first virtual women's police station and the Child Safety Centre.

They were also briefed on the operations of the Safe City Operation and Monitoring Centre.

The delegation was informed about the new features of the 15 Emergency Helpline system and the advanced artificial intelligence system. They were also briefed on the AI-based Traffic Violations System.

Operations Commander SP Shafique Ahmad stated that the use of modern technology was providing a safe environment for business activities. Smart Safe City projects are being implemented in 18 additional districts of Punjab.

The delegation appreciated the Safe City measures taken to protect foreign investment and the business community.

Lahore:Chairman Alhamra Razi Ahmed and Executive Director Toqueer Haider Kazmi visited the Alhamra Cultural Complex to review cleanliness, security and service delivery standards. During the visit, they emphasised the need to increase literary and cultural activities to engage the community further. Chairman Razi Ahmed highlighted the strategic location and aesthetic appeal of the Alhamra Cultural Complex, stating, "This beautiful venue will become a focal point for the public through high-quality programmes." He also commended the efforts to attract international tourists and delegations to the Alhamra Modern Art Museum, adding that preserving the cultural complex's architectural charm remains a significant challenge. Executive Director Toqueer Haider Kazmi reinforced the cultural complex's commitment to showcasing the region's cultural heritage through initiatives. He remarked: "We are taking steps to highlight cultural beauty of this space. He added promoting quality literary and cultural activ ities through both Alhamra complexes was a mission in Lahore, the city of vibrant culture. The visit underscores Alhamra's dedication to fostering arts, culture, and heritage while maintaining the highest standards of service and infrastructure.

Lahore:Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza visited various locations in the Model Town tehsil as part of the ongoing Clean Mission.

During his visit, the DC reviewed cleanliness measures on Kacha Jail Road, Faujian Chowk, and in Green Town. He was accompanied by Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) Chief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia and Assistant Commissioner Model Town Sahibzada Yusuf.

The AC Model Town briefed the DC that field teams are ensuring the effective implementation of the cleanliness mechanism.

DC Syed Musa Raza also directed LWMC officials to identify and address areas with waste accumulation immediately. He expressed strong concern over the sight of a vacant plot filled with garbage, instructing LWMC workers to quickly transport the waste to designated dumping sites. He emphasized that the cleanliness process should be maintained even after waste removal, ensuring long-term effectiveness.

The DC also engaged with local residents, listening to their concerns and assuring them that their issues would be addressed promptly. Citizens appreciated the improvements in sanitation under the Clean Mission and commended DC Lahore's efforts in enhancing the city's cleanliness.

The DC emphasized that the monitoring of LWMC workers in the field will be more stringent. He also instructed that cleanliness tasks in streets and neighborhoods should be completed early in the morning. He assured that effective measures would be implemented to maintain cleanliness and hygiene citywide. He urged citizens to avoid discarding garbage in the streets or leaving it outside their homes. Instead, they should place it in designated waste collection areas.

He called on every citizen to treat the cleanliness of Lahore as a national duty, emphasizing that together, we can make the city beautiful and free from environmental pollution. He reaffirmed that providing citizens with a clean and healthy environment is his top priority.

Lahore:The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education (SH and ME) Punjab has implemented a significant change in the local drug purchase system at government teaching hospitals.

As per the new policy, no medication can be purchased unless the hospital's existing stock is depleted.

During a briefing on the Health Information Management System (HIMS), here on Tuesday, Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood was informed that in the current fiscal year, public teaching hospitals in the province had purchased medications worth Rs73 million through local purchase, despite these medicines already being available in stock.

Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood instructed the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to make immediate changes to the software to ensure proper implementation of this new policy. He emphasized that any local purchases made despite existing stock would be the responsibility of the Medical Superintendent (MS) concerned.

The new system aims to reduce unnecessary local purchases, streamline hospital inventory management, and ensure better utilization of available resources.

Lahore:Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood visited the Walton Road construction site to assess progress and review timelines for the ongoing upgradation project.

He was also chaired the meeting there on the construction progress which was attended by CEO CBD Imran Ameen, DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CEO Walton, AC Model Town and Cant, and officials from PHA, LESCO, WASA, and the Traffic Police.

The CBD and NESPAK officials briefed the meeting on the ongoing construction progress, revealing key updates on Walton Road. They confirmed that asphalt is being laid at a daily rate of 1,100 tons, and streetlight poles are being installed at a rapid pace. Additionally, 1,500 meters of cable will be installed daily as part of the electrical works. The overall Walton Road Upgradation project is 80 percent complete, with the main road fully prepared. Work on the green belts is also underway.

The meeting also highlighted the completion of 4.2 kilometers of trunk sewer lines, with the old drainage system successfully replaced by a new one. The Major Ishaq Shaheed Flyover on Walton Road is now operational, with a total length of 510 meters and two lanes open to traffic.

The Commissioner directed all relevant departments to focus on completing the remaining work. Specifically, he instructed TEPA and the CBD team to finalize lane markings and signage for the road. He also emphasized that NESPAK, the Traffic Police, and TEPA should conduct a joint visit to redesign the U-turns in accordance with traffic flow needs.

Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood asked PHA to increase manpower for horticulture work on the medians of Walton Road. He noted that Walton Road, as a vital artery connecting Ferozepur Road to Defence, would greatly improve traffic flow and provide significant benefits to citizens once fully operational.

He stressed the importance of completing all remaining work promptly, in line with the established timelines, to ensure the road's timely completion and enhance the convenience of commuters.
