Lahore: Capital City Police Officer Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana chaired a meeting at his office on Saturday to review the key performance indicators (KPIs), introduced by the Punjab chief minister to evaluate Police Department performance.

The meeting included a detailed assessment of all divisional performances within the provincial capital.

Strategies to eradicate the beggar mafias was discussed in collaboration with the line Departments.

CCPO emphasized the Chief Minister's vision of promptly resolving complaints of women and children. He expressed satisfaction over a 39 percent reduction in motorcycle thefts, attributing it to the effective actions of Lahore Police. Additionally, he stressed the importance of preventing kite-flying, aerial firing and one-wheeling while urging police to ensure optimal public relief in alignment with the Chief Minister's directives.

Highlighting public service as a key measure of police performance, the CCPO called on the Traffic Police to continue improving traffic discipline. He also emphasized the need to enhance the quality of investigation to provide better relief to the citizens.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including CTO Athar Waheed, DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Asghar, DIG (Operations) Imran Kishwar, DIG (OCU) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed, SSP (Admin) Atif Nazir and SSP (Operations) Tassawar Iqbal.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the sad demise of long-time Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) worker Syed Hassan Asghar, also known as Guddo Shah.

In a heartfelt message, the chief minister extended her condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family, sharing in their loss during this difficult time.

Lahore: Two female domestic workers, with the help of their armed accomplices, took away jewellery and other valuables worth over Rs. 22 million from the house of a trader in Model Town area here.

According to the FIR, registered on Saturday, the robbery took place on January 22 at the house of Shahzeb Akram. He had hired two female domestic workers a day earlier. These workers, along with their two armed accomplices, took the family hostage at gunpoint, and took away jewellery and other valuables.

The police said a case had been registered, while search for the accused was under way with the help of CCTV footage and other evidence.

Lahore: Class personified batsman Babar Azam is the only Pakistani cricketer to be nominated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the ICC Men's T20I Team of the Year for his exceptional batting performances in the shortest format of the game during the year 2024.

Babar Azam, who has made the cover drive his own, once again exhibited unparalleled consistency as he scored 738 runs in 24 matches at an average of 33.54 with six half-centuries and the highest score of 75.

The citation by the ICC read as: 'Renowned for his elegant stroke play and unmatched consistency, Babar Azam again anchored Pakistan's innings time and again, ensuring stability in a dynamic batting lineup.

The right-handed batter started off his year in sizzling fashion, notching up three half-centuries on the trot against New Zealand away from home.

The 30-year old's ability to perform under pressure and his consistency across formats reaffirmed his status as one of the finest players in international cricket, placing him sixth on the ICC Men's T20I rankings for batters.'

On the other side, left-arm orthodox slow Sadia Iqbal was picked in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year 2024. Sadia Iqbal bagged 30 wickets in 19 appearances at an average of 14.30 and the best bowling of 4-16.

The ICC acknowledged Sadia's bowling acumen in the following words: 'The left-arm orthodox bowler had an exceptional year, making a major impact by claiming 30 wickets in 19 matches, proving to be a key performer with the ball throughout the season.

A brilliant spell of 3/18 from 4 overs against West Indies in Karachi in May marked the start of Sadia Iqbal's consistent performances throughout the 2024 year.

The 29-year-old delivered her best T20I spell against Sri Lanka in Dambulla during the Women's Asia Cup, with remarkable figures of 4/16 from 4 overs. She followed it up with another impressive performance, taking 3/34 against South Africa in Multan in July and September.

Sadia Iqbal's consistency and ability to get breakthroughs cemented her second position in the ICC Women's T20I Bowling Rankings.'

Lahore: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has provided the family of another martyred policeman, Constable Asghar Ali from Faisalabad, a house worth Rs. 13.5 million.

The house was purchased according to the family's preference on Satyana Road in Faisalabad. Constable Asghar Ali sacrificed his life in 2018 during a raid when he was shot and martyred.

A police spokesperson said the Punjab government had released funds for the martyr's family's house.

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's farmer-friendly policies are beginning to show positive results in Punjab.

The use of the Kisan Card and effective administrative control have led to a 50 per cent increase in the sale of urea across the province.

A special review report on fertilizer usage confirmed the positive trend, showing a significant rise in the use of fertilizers and pesticides due to the Kisan Card programme. The report, issued here on Saturday, indicated that urea sales in the province had increased by 57.9 per cent, reaching 991,000 tons. This surge in urea sales is primarily attributed to the Punjab government's Kisan Card scheme, which facilitates easy access to fertilizers for farmers. In addition to urea, the sale of other organic fertilizers has also increased by 42.9 percent. Furthermore, sales of nitrogen-based fertilizers have risen by 50.7 percent, phosphates by 9.3 percent, and potash by 0.8 percent.

For the first time in this season, a noticeable decrease in fertilizer prices has also been observed, which is another positive outcome of the program. The report highlights that these increases in fertilizer sales are directly linked to the Kisan Card initiative, which enables farmers to buy agricultural inputs like fertilizers and pesticides at subsidized rates.

The report further reveals that, under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, satellite monitoring of wheat sowing across the province has begun. According to the Agriculture Department's data, the verification process for wheat cultivation on 1.61 million acres is ongoing through satellite images. Once the wheat crop matures, these satellite images will be compared with the images taken at the time of sowing to confirm the success and accuracy of the sowing process.

The report also highlighted that around 400,000 farmers who have obtained Kisan Cards have already used them to purchase agricultural inputs, including fertilizers and pesticides, amounting to a total of 35 billion rupees. To date, 530,000 farmers in Punjab have been issued Kisan Cards, and the program is expected to cover up to 750,000 farmers in the province. This makes the Kisan Card initiative the largest farmer support and agricultural aid program in Punjab's history l.

The Kisan Card program aims to provide direct assistance to farmers by ensuring access to essential agricultural supplies and resources. The Kisan Card is seen as a major step toward improving the livelihood of farmers and boosting agricultural productivity in Punjab.
