Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to enforce a strict crackdown on government vehicles that contribute to environmental degradation and in this regard, a letter has been issued by Director General Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab. The crackdown will start after January 30, teams from the Environment and Transport Departments would begin inspecting government vehicles to ensure compliance with environmental standards. EPA Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh, has written to all provincial departments, commissioners, and deputy commissioners, urging them to ensure that vehicle inspection certificates were obtained before the deadline. The crackdown aims to reduce pollution levels caused by poorly maintained government vehicles. The directive mandates that all officers and officials ensure the inspection of their respective departmental vehicles and obtain the necessary certifications before the January 30 deadline.

Lahore: Punjab Judicial Academy (PJA) on Monday launched a comprehensive training course on the analysis of revenue documents and inheritance issues in civil cases. Thirty-two civil judges, senior civil judges, and additional district and sessions judges from across the province were participating in the current batch. During his address, PJA Director General Justice (Retd) Sardar Ahmad Naeem emphasized that judges in the district judiciary require professional expertise to analyze revenue documents before deciding complex issues such as inheritance. He underscored the importance of equipping judges with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle matters related to revenue documents effectively. He affirmed that, in line with the vision of Lahore High Court Chief Justice, the academy is committed to providing top-notch training to all judicial officers in Punjab, enabling them to deliver prompt and sustainable decisions. While discussing the objectives of training, he highlighted that enhancing both the knowledge and working skills of judges was a key priority of the academy. Justice (Retd) Sardar Ahmad Naeem urged the participants to gain as much knowledge and skill as possible from the course material and to benefit from the expertise of the renowned instructors arranged by the academy. He expressed the hope that, after completing the training, participants would be better equipped to effectively analyze revenue evidence and deliver justice in civil cases.

Lahore: Lahore Police arrested 32 individuals as part of its continued efforts to tackle illegal encroachments across the city. Cases have been registered against the offenders at various police stations. According to police, arrests were made in several divisions: 18 in Cantonment Division, seven in the Civil Lines Division, four in Sadr Division, one in City Division and two in Iqbal Town Division. CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana said the Lahore police were providing full support to the district administration in the anti-encroachment drive. He emphasised that the campaign aims to improve traffic flow and ensure strict legal action against those involved in illegal encroachments, without any discrimination. The CCPO further urged citizens to act responsibly and refrain from creating encroachments, as their removal significantly contributes to smoother traffic movement.

Lahore: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala Zone claimed on Monday to have arrested a person involved in Morocco boat accident during a raid in Gujranwala. FIA spokesperson said, the accused has been identified as Muhammad Ansar. The accused, along with other accomplices, attempted to smuggle the victim, Amir Ali to Spain. The traffickers initially sent the victim to Mauritania. Subsequently, they attempted to smuggle the victim to Spain by boat. As a result of the boat accident, several Pakistanis lost their lives. The victim, Amir Ali, was rescued by Moroccan authorities following the incident. Amir Ali's name was included in the list issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said spokesperson. The traffickers extorted Rs 5.35 million from the victim's family to send him abroad. A case has been registered against the accused. Further investigation was underway. Director Gujranwala Zone Abdul Qadir Qamar said operations against human trafficking networks had been intensified. "Those who play with the lives of innocent people will be brought to justice," said Qadir.

Lahore: Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) underground water tank at Hussain Park Tikka Chowk would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 560 million within three months. This was briefed by WASA officers during the visit of WASA Vice Chairman, Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmed, who reviewed the ongoing construction progress of the underground water tank at Tikka Chowk here on Monday. The Project Director, Abu Bakar Imran, briefed in details the construction progress. He told the WASA vice chairman the water tank would help store 1.5 million gallons of rainwater. Before the tank's construction, the flow of traffic from G-Block Market to Tikka Chowk was frequently disrupted during rain. Once the project was completed, traffic would continue to flow smoothly, and rainwater would be efficiently collected in the tank. WASA Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz Ahmed emphasized the importance of using high-quality materials throughout the construction process. He directed that all available resources should be utili zed to complete the project within the stipulated timeline. Additionally, he stressed the need for maintaining transparency throughout the construction phase. Special measures would be taken to ensure minimal inconvenience to residents during the construction. Daily progress reports of the project would be submitted to ensure continuous monitoring. "WASA's mission is to provide citizens with better and more efficient services, and we are committed to utilizing all resources to achieve the goal", said Chaudhry Shahbaz.
