Lahore: Federal Minister for Information Broadcasting, National Heritage and Culture Attaullah Tarar on Sunday visited the residence of Mian Amer Mehmood, Chairman of Dunya Media Group, and offered condolence on the demise of his mother-in-law. During the visit, he expressed his heartfelt sympathy to Mian Amer and his family and offered Dua for the departed soul. Attaullah Tarar said, "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Mian Amer's mother-in-law. This is a great loss, and may Allah grant you patience. May Allah grant the deceased a high place in His mercy and give her family strength and patience" he prayed. Provincial Assembly Member Mian Imran Javed accompanied the Federal Minister during his visit.

Lahore: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted a final opportunity to two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, MNA Muhammad Ahmad Chattha and MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas, to join investigations in cases related to the May-9 incidents.

ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill presided over proceedings on the bail applications of the PTI leaders, who were present in the court following the expiry of their interim bail. During the proceedings, DSP Asif Javed and the investigating officers concerned appeared and presented case records.

The investigating officers informed the court that despite repeated notices, Chattha had failed to participate in the investigations against him. In response, the court extended his interim bail until February 7, warning that this was his final chance to cooperate.

The investigating officers further reported that Abbas had not joined the investigation in a case related to the torching of police vehicles near Jinnah House. However, they stated that the MPA had already been included in investigations concerning three other cases, including the attack on Askari Tower.

Subsequently, the court extended Abbas's interim bail until February 4 and directed him to cooperate fully with the investigation.

Both leaders had filed pre-arrest bail applications in four cases related to the torching of police vehicles near Jinnah House and other incidents.

Lahore: Joint operations by the Punjab Police and Interpol resulted in the arrest of a fugitive involved in a murder case from Saudi Arabia.

A spokesperson said the Special Operations Cell of Punjab Police arrested Hussnain Ahmad, who was wanted by the Sialkot Police for a murder case. The accused had shot at and killed a man named Zeeshan in 2024 and had fled to Saudi Arabia.

Following continuous follow-up, Punjab Police successfully arrested the fugitive from Saudi Arabia and brought him back to Pakistan.

This is the third fugitive arrested and transferred from abroad within the first 16 days of this year.

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab has approved additional funds of Rs. 2.55 million for the treatment of officials and their families suffering from serious illnesses.

A police spokesperson said ASI Muhammad Yaqoob has been granted Rs. 500,000 for cancer treatment, while retired Assistant Syed Zia Shabbir has been given Rs. 250,000 for blood cancer treatment. Driver Constable Muhammad Imran and Constable Ijaz Ahmad have each been given Rs. 200,000 for medical treatment. Head Constables Abdul Jabbar, Muhammad Zeeshan, and retired Constable Muhammad Riaz have each been granted Rs. 100,000 for treatment. Inspector Kashif Ahmad, Sub-Inspector Nusrat Jamal, and Constable Nazir Hussain have been given Rs. 100,000 each for medical treatment. Constables Muhammad Yaseen, Asif Majid, and Saddam Hussain have also been given Rs. 100,000 each for treatment. Junior Clerk Sajjad Ali, Head Constable Abdul Saeed, and Constable Ahmar have been approved a total of Rs. 215,000 for themselves and their families's treatment. Head Constable Muhammad Imran, Constable Noor-ul-Azeem, and Constable Faisal Idrees have been given a total of Rs. 210,000 for medical treatment for themselves and their fam ilies.

IG Punjab approved the fund release after scrutiny by the Medical Financial Assistance Committee.

He said that, under MOUs with various organizations, the department is also providing modern medical facilities to its employees.

Lahore: The Punjab government on Friday submitted proposed rules regarding school buses to the Lahore High Court (LHC) in a smog prevention case. A provincial law officer submitted the proposed rules before Justice Shahid Karim, who was hearing a set of petitions filed by Haroon Farooq and others against ineffective measures to control smog.

The law officer stated that plans included exempting schools located in narrow streets and neighborhoods from the mandatory use of buses. "Schools charging fees below Rs 4,000 would also be exempt," he submitted, adding that schools failing to comply with bus-related rules would face a fine of Rs 50,000.

However, at this stage, a member of the Judicial Water and Environment Commission suggested further revisions to these regulations.

A counsel representing the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) also presented a traffic management plan for Multan Road. He informed the court that U-turns contributing to traffic congestion on Multan Road had been closed.

Commending these efforts, the court noted that the government appeared serious about addressing traffic issues, emphasizing that even a five-minute traffic jam significantly increases pollution due to vehicle emissions.

The court also directed the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to expedite the installation of water meters at service stations, hotels, and other establishments. The court expressed concern over the lack of recycling systems at service stations after a Judicial Commission member reported that 16 such stations were found non-compliant. The court remarked that the installation of water meters would encourage these businesses to adopt recycling practices.

The court appreciated the ongoing efforts by the LDA and urged all authorities to intensify their measures to mitigate smog and environmental pollution.

Subsequently, the court adjourned further proceedings until the following week.

Lahore: A domestic workers' thieves gang, which had stolen gold ornaments, has been traced with the help of Smart Safe City Gujranwala's cameras.

According to details, a complaint was made on the 15 emergency helpline regarding the theft of 80 tolas of gold by a domestic worker. Upon receiving the complaint, the search for the suspects began using Safe City Gujranwala's cameras. The suspects were seen traveling in an auto-rickshaw in the footage. Initial investigations revealed that three women fled in the rickshaw with two other accomplices.

The spokesperson for the Safe Cities Authority stated that the three women and two men could be seen in the video escaping in the rickshaw. The virtual patrolling officer of Safe City Gujranwala provided all evidence to the relevant police, who subsequently arrested the gang after a search.

Further legal action is underway against the suspects. Citizens are advised to thoroughly check the police records when hiring domestic workers.
