Lahore: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq and Chief Minister's Special Assistant on Political Affairs Zeeshan Malik inaugurated the door-to-door waste collection programme in the provincial capital on Monday. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian, Chairman Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) Bilal Zulfiqar Khokhar and CEO Babar Sahib Din were also present during a ceremony held at Nishtar Town. Addressing the ceremony, the provincial minister said that initially the collection of waste from houses had been started from the relatively backward area of Nishtar Town. "The scope of door-to-door waste collection will be extended to all areas in a phased manner. I congratulate the LWMC for carrying forward the vision of the chief minister", he said. He added that door-to-door waste collection had started in 25 union councils of Lahore. " The LWMC will add 2 or 3 union councils every day", he pledged. He expressed his determination t hat 100 union councils will be brought under th is scope by January 31 and the whole city by mid-March. Zeeshan Rafiq said that Clean Punjab was not a campaign but the name of an organized cleanliness movement. He emphasized that no movement could succeed without the support of citizens. "Zinda Dilan Lahore are requested to support the government's efforts to make the city ideal," he added. On this occasion, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik said that Suthra Punjab programme was a game changer for which credit went to the chief minister. "We all have to beautify the city along with our homes", he added.
Child Protection Bureau chairperson welcomes Child Courts Bill
Lahore: Child Protection Bureau Chairperson Sarah Ahmad has lauded the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Interior for approving the landmark Child Courts Bill.
In her statement issued here on Friday, she termed it a crucial advancement in protecting child rights and ensuring prompt justice for victims of abuse. "This is a historic milestone in our collective efforts to safeguard children across Pakistan. The establishment of child courts will create a safe and supportive environment for children, enabling swift justice and instilling hope in affected families," Sarah Ahmad stated.
Highlighting key provisions of the bill, she appreciated the requirement for resolving child abuse cases within six months. The legislation ensures that children statements will be recorded in a child-friendly setting in the presence of psychologists, which is vital for their emotional well-being, she added.
Referring to recent data, Sarah Ahmad expressed concern over the rising number of child abuse cases.
This bill represents more than just legislation-it is a beacon of hope for our children. By guaranteeing justice and creating trust in the judicial system, it will encourage victims and their families to come forward without fear, she said.
The Child Protection Bureau reaffirms its commitment to working alongside stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of laws and to continue advocating for the rights and safety of children.
JahanAra Wattoo visits Sundas Foundation,praises its humanitarian efforts
Lahore: Vice Chairperson(VC) Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) JahanAra Wattoo on Friday visited the Sundas Foundation, where she met and extended her well wishes to children undergoing treatment for thalassemia and hemophilia. During her visit,she toured various departments of the foundation and distributed gifts among patients.Spending time with children and their families,JahanAra not only brought smiles to their faces but also uplifted their spirits with her presence. Medical Director Sundas Foundation Dr Adnan Gilani briefed her on foundation's services, highlighting that Sundas Foundation provides free treatment and medications to over 7,000 thalassemia patients, whose lives depend on regular blood transfusions. Dr.Gillani also shared details about the foundation's comprehensive treatment plans, patient guidance and the awareness initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for these patients. JahanAra praised the foundation's efforts, acknowledging it as a beacon of hope and life for both patients and their families.She committed to continuing full support for the foundation's mission, assuring that she would take every possible step to improve the lives of deserving patients. Federal secretary inaugurates Wexnet 2025 exhibition
Lahore: Federal Secretary Commerce Jawad Paul Khawaja inaugurated the three-day Wexnet 2025 exhibition at the Expo Centre on Friday, highlighting the government dedication to empowering women and enhancing their role in trade and commerce.
During his address at the inaugural ceremony, he highlighted Wexnet as a testament to the Ministry of Commerce's commitment to women empowerment. He noted that the event serves as a platform for women from across Pakistan to showcase their talents and strive for global recognition.
Describing Wexnet as more than just an exhibition, Khawaja called it a celebration of creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit. He stressed the significance of the event, which has evolved into a valuable platform for Pakistani women to connect with opportunities and achieve growth.
He said that a notable feature of this year's Wexnet is inclusion of 40 women entrepreneurs from underprivileged and economically developing regions, such as Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, south Punjab, and interior Sindh. "Subsidized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the initiative reflects the government's dedication to creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs, regardless of their geographic or economic circumstances," he added.
The secretary highlighted that the participants bring unique products and inspiring stories of resilience, underscoring their critical role in sectors like textiles, handicrafts, and agribusiness. He said that the government was prioritising three key areas to support women entrepreneurs. First, expanding market access by connecting women-led businesses with national and international buyers to open doors to global markets. Second, promoting capacity building through skill development programs, business incubation, and mentorship opportunities offered by the Ministry of Commerce and TDAP. Third, strengthening financial inclusion by collaborating with financial institutions to ensure women entrepreneurs have access to the resources they need to succeed, he added.
With over 200 exhibitors from across Pakistan, Wexnet 2025 showcases the diversity and richness of Pakistani culture through world-class products. It also provides opportunities for networking, knowledge-sharing, and meaningful partnerships through workshops, seminars, and B2B meetings, he added.
The secretary commended the TDAP for its efforts in organising the event, calling it a 'beacon of hope' for women entrepreneurs. He encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunities provided and reiterated the government's commitment to fostering an enabling environment for women-led businesses to thrive and achieve national and global success.
TDAP Director General Women Empowerment Fauzia Parveen, Vice President FPCCI Quratul Ain, Designer Neelofar Shahid also addressed the ceremony whereas a large number of participants were present on the occasion.

Minister inaugurates Sanatzar stalls
Lahore: Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Punjab Sohail Shaukat Butt inaugurated the Sanatzar stalls of the Social Welfare Department at the Wexnet Exhibition 2025, organised by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.
Accompanied by Director General Social Welfare Sikandar Zeeshan, the minister visited various stalls and appreciated the products and craftsmanship of women artisans. He said the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department was taking concrete steps to empower women and promote their skills. He emphasised that the exhibition provides women with an excellent platform to showcase their talents to the world and expand their professional networks.
He further stated that such events offer women a valuable opportunity to exhibit their abilities and creativity. The department set up a total of 15 stalls through its institutions, Sanatzar and Qasr-e-Behbood, where trained women from various districts of Punjab presented unique handmade items, jewelry, handcrafted clothing, home d©cor, paintings, and other creative products. These products not only reflect the artisans’ skill and dedication but also embody Punjab’s rich cultural heritage.
A large number of visitors, including prominent figures from public and private sectors, visited the stalls and admired the women’s handcrafted products. The event also featured captivating performances by folk artists, providing entertainment to the attendees.
Motorcyclist injured by kite string recovering fast
Lahore: Sabir Masih, a motorcyclist injured by a kite string, is showing rapid improvement and is expected to be discharged from the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) by Monday.
Currently undergoing treatment in the hospital’s Surgical Unit 3, Sabir’s recovery has been commended by the medical team.
According to the LGH administration on Friday, Principal Ameeruddin Medical College Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Fareed Zafar visited the injured patient and was briefed by Dr. Kareemullah and Dr. Ahmed Naeem Akhtar about Sabir’s health status.
Talking to Sabir’s relatives, Prof. Al-Fareed Zafar said that following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, senior doctors had ensured top-notch medical care since the patient’s admission. He lauded the efforts of the LGH medical team, saying that a swift response and timely operation saved Sabir’s life.
