Lahore: The recruitment process for constables in the Excise and Taxation Department, under the supervision of Punjab Police, is ongoing.

According to the details, recruitment boards comprising Punjab Police and Excise and Taxation officers are conducting physical and written tests for the candidates.

SSP Telecommunications Ali Zia has been appointed as the chairman of the recruitment board in Lahore, while the District Police Officers (DPOs) have been appointed as the chairman of recruitment boards in their respective districts.

A total of 124 candidates who pass the physical and written tests will be recruited as Excise and Taxation constables.

The recruitment tests for Excise and Taxation constables are being conducted by Punjab Police in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, and Rawalpindi. Similarly, the recruitment process for Excise constables is also ongoing in Attock, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.

The running and fitness tests for candidates were completed from December 30, 2024, to January 1, 2025. According to the schedule, the candidates' physical measurements will be taken from January 2 to January 4. The written tests and results will be completed from January 5 to January 7. The recruitment boards will announce the written exam results in consultation with the respective Directors of Excise and Taxation.

While issuing instructions, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that all officers must closely monitor the recruitment process in collaboration with the respective Directors of Excise and Taxation, ensuring that merit and transparency are maintained throughout the recruitment process.

He also directed that video recording be carried out at all stages of the recruitment process to ensure fairness. Furthermore, he stated that foolproof security arrangements have been made during the recruitment process.

Lahore: At least 14 people were killed and 1,103 injured in 1,069 road accidents in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

As many as 475 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 614 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rscue medical teams.

The data analysis showed that 593 drivers, 41 underage drivers, 129 pedestrians, and 353 passengers were among the victims of road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 228 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 235 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 87 accidents and 93 victims, and at third Gujranwala with 63 accidents and 61 victims.

According to the data, 878 motorbikes, 62 auto-rickshaws, 114 motorcars, 26 vans, 06 pas6senger buses, 44 truck and 80 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in these road traffic accidents.

Lahore: DIG Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran has said that everyone should play a positive role to establish peace and end extremism in the country.

He was addressing an awareness session on security issues, organised by the Punjab University Directorate of Students Affairs at Al Raazi Hall on Thursday.

PU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, DG PU Dr Rehan Sadiq Sheikh, Director Students Affairs Dr Shahzeb Khan, Chairman Hall Council Dr Mahboob Hussain, faculty members, police officers and a large number of students were present.

In his address, DIG Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran said that the awareness campaign was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the public and the police. He said that young students were an asset to Pakistan, who could take the country forward. He said the Punjab Police officers were setting up open courts from 12pm to 2pm in which the people can come for resolution of their problems.

Dr Khalid Mahmood said that such events were encouraged to promote trust between institutions and people. He said that there are laws in Pakistan but the problem is their implementation. He said that Punjab University is always with the institutions for peace and security in the country.

Dr Shahzeb Khan said that the DSA office will continue to play an active role in guiding its young students. He said that the students who graduated from PU are showing their skills all over the world including Pakistan.

Lahore: The Services and General Administration Department (S and GAD) department will auction vehicles in Lahore on January 15.

S and GAD sources said that 65 old vehicles will be auctioned in the provincial capital on January 15, however, this auction will be held at the Civil Defense Office.

As many as 21 motorcycles will be auctioned and the vehicles will be inspected on January 13 and 14.

Cultus Suzuki and Corolla vehicles have been kept among the old vehicles, the sources said.

Lahore: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain-wind/thunderstorm in most parts of the province including the provincial metropolis till January 6.

According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a frontal weather system is present over upper parts of the country and likely to persist in upper parts till 06th January and under the influence of this weather system, rain-wind/thunderstorm with heavy snowfall in Murree and Galliyat till January 6 with occasional gaps.

Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Pothohar region, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Khushab, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jahng and Toba Tek Singh during the same period while light rain-wind/thunderstorm is also expected in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Taunsa Sharif, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara and Bahawalnagar till 05th January, 2025 with occasional gaps.

Heavy snowfall may cause road closure/ slippery conditions in Murree, Galliyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, Haveli, Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah and Qilla Saifullah till 06th January, 2025.

Tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and may avoid unnecessary travelling during the period while rain may be beneficial for the standing crops in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Cold wave conditions likely to grip most parts of the country followed by the wet spell and dense foggy conditions may develop in plains of the country after the forecast period.
