Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday approved the establishment of Aitchison-level schools for boys and girls across the province and gave the go-ahead for the pilot project of the Maryam Nawaz Centre of Academic Leadership.

The approval was granted during a meeting on school education chaired by the chief minister here, where she was given a detailed briefing on the proposed academic leadership centre.

The meeting decided to establish the first Maryam Nawaz Centre of Academic Leadership on Wahdat Road in Lahore for male and female students.

According to the briefing, the state-of-the-art institution will feature a modern sports hall, hockey and cricket stadiums, horse-riding facilities and a swimming pool. The centre will have the capacity to enrol 5,000 boys and 5,000 girls, providing high-quality academic and extracurricular opportunities.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative aimed to provide students with world-class educational and sports facilities while promoting academic excellence and leadership development across Punjab.

Lahore: Pakistan’s premier exhibition for the dyes, chemicals and allied industries, the 11th Colour and Chem Expo 2026, will be held here at Lahore International Expo Centre on July 18-19, 2026.

Organised by Event and Conference International (Pvt.) Limited. in collaboration with Rainbow Group and the Punjab Dyes and Chemicals Merchants Association (PDCMA), the two-day exhibition promises to be the country’s most comprehensive platform for the chemical and allied industries.

The organisers told media here Tuesday that Punjab Minister for Industries, Commerce and Investment, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, will attend the event as the chief guest, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to promoting industrial growth, investment and technological advancement in Pakistan’s manufacturing sector.

They added that the expo will be open daily from 10am to 6pm, offering free entry to trade and corporate visitors upon pre-registration. More than 300 national and international exhibitors will showcase cutting-edge products, technologies and solutions across the dyes, chemicals and allied industries. The event is expected to attract thousands of business professionals, manufacturers, importers, exporters, distributors, researchers, policymakers and investors from Pakistan and overseas.

Running alongside the exhibition will be the Digital Textile Printing Industry Expo (DTPIE), providing visitors with an expanded opportunity to explore the latest developments in digital textile printing, screen printing, textile processing, finishing technologies and industrial automation.

The exhibition, they said, will feature a wide range of sectors, including textile chemicals, dyes and intermediates, pigments, printing technologies, paints and coatings, pharmaceuticals, food chemicals, agrochemicals, fertilisers, petrochemicals, detergents, leather chemicals, water treatment, specialty chemicals, laboratory equipment, industrial machinery and environmental technologies.

Since its inception in 2016, the Colour and Chem Expo has established itself as Pakistan’s leading business-to-business platform for the dyes and chemicals industry, facilitating trade, technology transfer, investment opportunities and strategic partnerships.

Lahore: Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi on Tuesday directed traffic officers to intensify enforcement against traffic violations and warned that officials found involved in corruption would face dismissal from service instead of suspension.

During visits to the Kotwali Sector, Railway Station Sector and the Railway Station Driving Licensing Centre, the CTO reviewed the overall performance of the City Circle, inspected public service facilities and received briefings from traffic wardens.

He also reviewed various stages of the driving licence issuance process and interacted with citizens visiting the licensing centre to seek feedback on the facilities being provided.

Expressing dissatisfaction over enforcement in the City Circle, the CTO directed DSP Rana Shahzad to improve operational performance and ensure effective traffic management.

Shirazi ordered strict action against one-way traffic violations, illegal turns, underage driving and motorists driving without valid licences.

He said vehicles carrying iron girders, steel rods and other hazardous loads in violation of safety regulations would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The CTO also directed officers to work with traders in Misri Shah, Circular Road and Shah Alam Market to resolve parking-related issues and improve traffic flow in the congested commercial areas.

Issuing a stern warning against corruption, Shirazi said officials found involved in corrupt practices, negligence of duty or misconduct with citizens would face immediate dismissal from service.

He instructed all traffic officers to facilitate the public both in the field and at offices by ensuring courteous behaviour and efficient service delivery.

The CTO also announced that the Railway Station Licensing Booth would now issue juvenile driving permits and motorcycle driving licences, providing greater convenience to citizens.

He further directed all driving licensing centres to give priority to women and senior citizens to ensure faster and more convenient access to licensing services.

Lahore: Managing Director(MD) Water and Sanitation Agency(WASA) Lahore,Ghafran Ahmed on Tuesday directed teams conducting the citywide survey of manhole covers to submit their progress reports on a daily basis,warning that any negligence or laxity in the matter will not be tolerated.

The directives were issued during an important meeting chaired by the MD WASA Ghafran Ahmed to review revenue recovery, monsoon preparedness and other operational matters.

The meeting was held as part of ongoing efforts to improve civic services and institutional performance in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The meeting conducted a detailed review of revenue performance and the recovery of outstanding dues.

The MD instructed officials to continue effective action against defaulters under a zero-tolerance policy and ensure 100 percent recovery across all towns.

He also ordered the implementation of an effective monitoring system to achieve revenue targets.

ts,MD Ghafran directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of water logging-prone areas during rainfall.

He instructed field teams to remove floating material from all drains and ensure the immediate cleaning of gratings after every rain spell to facilitate smooth drainage.

The MD further emphasized that all public complaints should be addressed on a priority basis to provide timely relief and improve service delivery for citizens.

He reiterated that strict vigilance would be maintained over the manhole cover survey and that no negligence in ensuring public safety would be accepted.

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into the alleged disappearance of 12 Pakistani youths in Iran after registering cases through its Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Lahore.

According to an FIA Lahore Zone spokesperson, special investigation teams have been constituted and raids are being conducted at various locations to arrest the suspects allegedly involved in sending the youths abroad on the pretext of facilitating their travel to Italy.

The spokesperson said all available resources are being utilised to arrest the accused and trace the missing youths.

He added that the FIA is also coordinating with the relevant authorities abroad to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing youths and ensure their safe recovery.

Lahore: The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab on Tuesday secured the release of more than Rs.5.6 million in pending group insurance dues to 17 citizens over the past three months after intervening in complaints against government departments.

According to an Ombudsman spokesperson,the complainants approached the institution after the departments concerned failed to release their group insurance payments despite repeated requests.

Taking notice of the complaints,the Ombudsman directed the relevant authorities to process and clear the outstanding claims without further delay.

Following the intervention,more than Rs.5.6 million was disbursed to the 17 complainants,providing long-awaited financial relief.

The beneficiaries appreciated the Ombudsman Punjab’s role in securing the release of their dues and acknowledged the institution’s efforts in ensuring the prompt resolution of public complaints.
