MULTAN: Commissioner Javed Akhtar Mahmood Monday said that 50, 000 trees would be planted in the division during the ongoing tree-plantation week under 2nd phase of “Khidmat Apki Dehleez Par” program.
Inaugurating the tree plantation week after planting 27 trees here at Qasim Fort Park, the commissioner said that tree plantation week was being observed with cooperation of civil society members. He said that all possible resources were being utilized to make Prime Minister Imran Khan’s clean and green Pakistan project successful. He said Multan would grab first position across the province in tree plantation week by planting more than 50, 000 trees.
Javed Akhtar Mahmood maintained that the task has been given to Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) for planting 15, 000 trees within the ongoing week. He said the tree plantation campaign was not only a drive but a dream to reduce heat in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Parliamentary Secretary on Information Nadeem Qureshi said that Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar was paying special focus on development of South Punjab. He said the tree plantation campaign has been started in the city keeping in view the historical background of the city.
He added it was not less than a blessing that a head of the state himself initiated tree plantation campaign in the country.
PHA Chairman Ejaz Hussain Janjua said that the authority was striving hard to make the city of saints a land of flowers and trees. He lauded the incumbent government for making tree plantation campaign a part of national policy.
Vice President of Total Parco Hassan Nasarullah said the Total have provided 270 trees to PHA while preparation of 600 others was under process.
PHA Director General Syed Shafqat Raza informed that a comprehensive mechanism has been made for protection of these trees. He disclosed that PHA have planted 6, 000 trees in the city.
