LAHORE: A delegation of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab, led by its Chairman Hamid Zaman, called on Provincial Industries Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal here at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday and apprised him of the problems facing the textile sector.
The delegation members expressed their fears that closure of gas supply would lead to the closure of textile industrial units and result in unemployment of people.
The minister said the textile sector was a major source of employment and exports. The issue of gas supply to the textile sector and other problems would be solved on priority basis, he promised. A letter would be written to the federal government for supply of gas to the sector and a meeting of the textile sector delegation with the prime minister would also be arranged.
Mian Aslam Iqbal said, “As a minister, it is my responsibility to protect the rights of industrialists of Punjab.” He said that record investment had been made in Punjab in the last three years, and all possible facilities were being provided to industrialists.
The delegation included Vice Chairman APTMA Punjab Kamran Arshad, Secretary-General Muhammad Baqir and others. Secretary Industries and Commerce Dr Wasif Khurshid, MD PSIC, Directors of Punjab Board of Investment and concerned officers were also present.
