ISLAMABAD:Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started decorating green belts, major avenues, and other frequently visited places with colorful flowers to give the federal capital a festive look ahead of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers meeting, scheduled to be held later this month.

“Massive-scale plantation across the federal capital was underway to bring freshness in the air, besides giving a scenic look to the capital city before the arrival of guests,” said a senior official of the environmental wing.

Talking to reporter on Thursday, he said a number of floral plants had been planted on Srinagar Highway, Peshawar Mor, Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, Constitution Avenue, Blue Area, Khayaban-e-Suharwardy, and other sites.

In this regard, he stated that the CDA and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) were given special tasks to complete the work before the arrival of the foreign delegations.

“The presence of plants will change the outlook for the federal capital,” he noted.

The official went on saying that it was the first time that precious saplings were being planted across the city. The CDA had constituted a special task force for the protection of plants, he said.

He said the road and maintenance department had been directed to complete lane marking and other repair work on crumbling roads on the route of coming delegations at the earliest.

Similarly, the walls of underpasses and interchanges were being illuminated with electric lamps while beautiful and attractive calligraphy patterns have also been installed to welcome the guests.

He said the street light division was asked to make functional all the lights on highways to avoid any inconvenience during the visit of the guests.

The federal apex agency has taken multiple inclusive steps for beautification of the city, he said citing ‘Light up Islamabad’ drive of the CDA under which trees and plants at the green belts were being lit up.
