KARACHI:City Administration has decided to activate the Divisional Heritage Preservation Committee (DHPC), headed by Commissioner Karachi, so as to take coordinated steps for the preservation of the historic buildings in the city.
This was decided in a meeting of the officials of District Administration South, according to a communique.
Commissioner Iqbal Memon directed the officials to carry out coordinated efforts to make the city better and resolve day to day civic issues with the support of civic agencies.
He said all the officials of all seven district administrations should work for the resolution to the public grievances in close coordination with the civic agencies including Water and Sewerage board, KMC, DMCs and Cantonment board etc.
The Deputy Commissioner south Irshad Sodhar gave a detailed presentation to the Commissioner with the help of charts and pictures on the efforts being made by the district administration for the development and beatification of the district as well as their efforts for the resolution to problems.
He also briefed about the Karachi Neighborhood Project being implemented in the district of South initiated by the Sindh government with the support of World Bank.
Commissioner, later visited different areas of the district to know about the civic issues of the district. He also visited NJV school and Jehangir park.
He said the district South is an important district as it has historical background as here live a diverse communities.
It has socio-economic importance, large number of head offices of financial and non-government organizations.
The Commissioner said Sindh government is making all-out efforts following the vision of Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to make city a better place to live with the objective to improve facilities, quality of life for local residents and to provide quality public spaces to meet citizen’s needs including improvement in footpaths, service roads, parking lanes; enhancement in food-street with canopies, furniture; connecting streets and green belts.
The overall project has following three key components and Redevelopment Development of Kakri Sports Complex.
“Rehabilitation & Upgradation of Boat Basin to Schon Chowrangi with Pedestrian trail and Gizri Sports Ground Karachi” besides other projects in districts of South, Korangi and Malir.
