ISLAMABAD:Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam on Wednesday said the ministry of climate change had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a corporate partner to hold massive afforestation at 50,000 acres particularly in the coastal areas.
Addressing a media briefing here, he said the plantation would be carried out by the corporate firm under the corporate social responsibility.
Amin said under the total plantation Mangrove trees would be planted on the area of 12,000 acres.
He underscored that the prior MoUs done by previous governments were unclear. Amin informed that some 26 private companies had signed Net Zero agreement at the world’s largest environmental moot of COP26 at Glasgow, Scotland.
“We are glad that private companies are coming forward. Our TBTTP has become a trademark for the country,” he added.
The SAPM told that the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Pakistan) would conduct the monitoring of the afforestation at the 50,000 acres area.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO of the firm, Ghias Ahmed said it was their duty to work on environmental conservation endeavours. “The project will be executed at a cost of Rs 600 million on 50,000 acres which will be completed in ten years,” he added.
