ISLAMABAD:The newly formed Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB) in Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) will prove as catalyst to ensure quality of engineering programmes in the universities and resolve the issues being faced by the students.
Vice Chairman PEC, Dr Niaz has been appointed as Convener of Engineering Accreditation Board while governing body members, vice chancellors and representatives of Higher Education Commission (HEC) were also included in the newly formed board.
According to the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), the board would determine the modalities for the launch of the new engineering programme, criteria and method of recognition of engineering departments and would look into complaints about universities’ engineering programmes.
The board would form inspection teams to review the engineering programmes of the universities and after which those programmes would be allowed to work in the light of inspection teams’ review.
The board would also prepare a directory of PEC accredited universities and programmes, decide on whether accreditation should be granted, as well as conditions to be imposed, if needed and act as a think tank on engineering evaluation for the PEC.
The board is responsible to advocate the meaning and value of PEC accreditation to major technical employers and other key stakeholders of the council.
