ECP ready to conduct LG elections; CEC

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja on Tuesday said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was fully ready to organize local government (LG) polls.

Addressing a ceremony held here in connection with the National Voters Day, the CEC said that the scrutiny of candidates’ papers in the upcoming Senate elections would be conducted online.

He said that the the Commission had not received any data regarding the regulations for LG polls, whereas, the relevant data for delimitation was not provided by the Balochistan government.

He said that the institution was in contact with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for LG polls.

He said that ECP would take steps for holding the fair elections in which all political parties would be given level playing field.

Election commission had organised polls on 50 vacant seats in March, whereas, DROs have been appointed for the second phase of elections. The training process of the election staff had been completed, he added.

He said that the commission would continue to perform its duties without any pressure.

He said that 10 projects were sent to the Planning Commission but these projects were not included in the PSDP.
