ISLAMABAD: Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East, and Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi on Wednesday said few extremist elements have lodged a propaganda against Single National Curriculum (SNC) to sabotage government’s initiative.
“We have to move forward in accordance with constitution sans caring about vested elements, ” he told media after a meeting with delegation of Ulema Mashaikh.
Ashrafi said the anti-social elements did not want that youth should be imparted modern as well as religious education.
He dispelled the impression that no such bill was passed or in process which was in contrary to the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. He said any bill contradictory to Islam could not passed through the parliament.
There was no concept of forced conversion in Islam as it did not permit forced conversion nor allow impeding voluntary conversion, he remarked.
He said Minister for Religious Affairs Noor ul Haq Qadri had already contradicted the impression that no legislation was possible in the country which was contrary to basic teachings of Islam.
He appreciated Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain for taking inclusive steps to counter fake news through legislation.
He urged the media persons who were protesting against legislation on proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority Bill to sit with the government and negotiate the matter.
He said that he was also a victim of fake news and even those who were protesting against the bill, also faced issues due to fake news.
