SIALKOT: A “High Performance Centre” will be set up at Jinnah Cricket Stadium in Sialkot under the Punjab Sports Board and for the promotion of cricket the stadium should be provided with modern facilities like Gaddafi Stadium Lahore with a cost of Rs. 1 billion.
Chairman Planning and Development Board Punjab Abdullah Khan Sumbal stated this during his visit to Jinnah Cricket Stadium, Sialkot Sports Complex and Hockey Stadium to review the proposed project. Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq, Chairman Air Sial Airline Fazal Jillani and District Sports Officer Iftikhar Gondal were also present on the occasion.
Chairman P&D Board Abdullah Khan Sumbal visited the Hockey Stadium, Football Ground and hinted at providing funds for the replacement of hockey stadium AstroTurf.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq said that establishment of High Performance Centre in Sialkot is important.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Pakistan Cricket Board and the District Administration in connection with these mega projects, he said.
DC said that during the South Asian Games in 2023, Sialkot will host football and volleyball matches and will ensure the provision of international standard facilities in this regard.
He said that the sports equipment manufacturer would provide all possible facilities and support to the talented players of Sialkot who will perform at the world level.
