ISLAMABAD: The Directorate of Agriculture Extension Services (AES), Islamabad Capital Tertiary (ICT) is in the process to construct two additional veterinary centres at Sihala, Kirpa and at Golra during the current financial year.
A total of 279, 751 animals have been treated free-of-cost at ICT veterinary hospitals and centres during the last financial year.
Director Agriculture Extension Services (AES) Muhammad Waqar Anwar inspected stock of veterinary medicines at Tarlai Veterinary Hospital on Wednesday and oversaw its fair distribution among all veterinary hospitals and centres, established in the ICT for free treatment and medical care of livestock.
The Directorate of AES is working under the supervision and guidance of Chief Commissioner ICT Amer Ali Ahmed and Director General ICT Syeda Shafaq Hashmi.
It was apprised that one of the departments of the AES Directorate by the name of ICT livestock department operates 13 veterinary hospitals and centres in rural areas of the ICT where veterinary services are provided to the livestock farmers. Immaculate record is kept of all animals treated at hospitals. Artificial insemination experts and veterinary assistants provide services at these livestock centres.
Since the Directorate is implementing Prime Minister’s livestock initiatives namely, ‘backyard poultry’ , ‘save the calf’ and ‘feedlot fattening’ so medicines procured under these projects have been distributed among veterinary hospitals and centres for successful execution of the said projects in the ICT besides ensuring provision of free medicines to sick animals and for improving their milking and meat capacities.
Islamabad has tremendous potential for livestock and Prime Minister’s initiatives in the realm will go a long way in pushing people for this necessary diversification in their sources of income and nutrition.
