LAHORE: The Fatima Jinnah Women Medical University (FJWU) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here on Thursday to formally start the BSc Midwifery Programme.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid presided over the signing ceremony, arranged at the FJWU, here on Thursday.
The minister thanked the UNFPA for its support in the start of BSc Midwifery at the FJWU.
She said that upgradation of Midwifery was a historical step, adding that all the nursing schools had been upgraded to the nursing colleges.
“For the last 42 years, I have strongly advocated for improvement in the profession of midwifery, ” she added.
She appreciated the FJWU team for coming forward and joining hands with the UNFPA.
She said that as per the agreement, the UNFPA would provide technical support in the launch the programme, adding that support would be extended in training for fistula surgery and youth friendly counselling centre.
Vice Chancellor FJWU Professor Amir Zaman Khan thanked the health minister for guidance always. He also thanked the UNFPA for its support.
Country Head UNFPA Bakhtior Kadirov said the UNFPA had always supported the government in its efforts to improve healthcare facilities. Provincial Head UNFPA Punjab Dr Shoaib said the UNFPA would continue to support the health department.
The copies of the MoU were exchanged between Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Amir Zaman Khan and Country Head UNFPA Bakhtior Kadirov.
