ISLAMABAD:Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East and Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and other key office bearers on Tuesday welcomed the negotiations between government and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In a joint statement, the PUC leadership said that they firmly believed that the issues should be settled through dialogues by shunning violence as Pakistani nation and its army have jointly defeated the menace of terrorism and extremism.
They hoped that before holding negotiations with TTP, the government had taken into confidence country’s political and religious leadership, heirs of martyrs, Pakistan’s forces and the leadership of security institutions.
PUC leadership urged the leadership of Pakistan, Afghanistan and other regional countries to take joint steps for ensuring peace and stability in the region especially in Afghanistan.
The enemies of peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan were conspiring to use the international terrorist organizations to make instability and destruct peace in region, said leadership of PUC.
Amidst this prevailing situation Pakistan, Afghanistan and other regional countries have to take steps very cautiously.
The clerics said that Ulema-Mashaykh have always played forefront role against extremism and terrorism.
