RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar
on Wednesday said the government was pursuing a comprehensive policy to control COVID-19 pandemic.
Talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by President Nadeem Rauf, who called on him here said, the COVID restrictions would be gradually relaxed in those cities where number of vaccinated people was higher than the number of corona cases.
The minister said more than 36 per cent of Rawalpindi’s eligible population had been fully vaccinated so far while 54 percent had received at least one jab, whereas in federal capital 55 percent of the population had jabbed themselves fully against the deadly virus and 74 percent had vaccinated partially, he added.
The minister assured the delegation that he would discuss the matter of construction of industrial zone besides Rawalpindi Ring Road with the Prime Minister.
On the occasion, RCCI President, Nadeem Rauf, briefed the minister about the ongoing activities of the chamber.
He requested him to start work on the ring road immediately and industrial zones should be set up as per masterplan.
“Setting up industrial zones will accelerate trade activities and promote local industry”, he added.
He also appreciated the role of the NCOC in controlling spread of coronavirus and also lauded its efforts for the availability of vaccines across Pakistan.
Nadeem assured the minister that the business community would extend full support to the government to make the vaccination campaign a success.
