ISLAMABAD:Senate on Monday passed a private member bill the Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2021 unanimously as reported by the Standing Committee.
Senator Mohsin Aziz moved the bill to further amend the Factories Act, 1934 [The Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in the Houses.
Statement of Objects and Reasons of the bill says that the Factories Act 1934 is rapidly becoming outdated and inadequate to address the problems of workers in a modern industrial era.
The dangers of many industrial processes and environments were unknown at the time of the existing Act. The Laws were designed for a different age with substantially different circumstance.
UN supported International Labor Organization has also been pushing for an overhaul of the industrial laws all over the world to match the new and challenging realities of modern industrial age. It is a time when number of countries are restructuring and redefining their industrial framework.
Pakistan is in dire need of attracting foreign investments and incremental reforms in industrial and legal framework will not only significantly raise the country’s profile in his increasingly globalized and industrialized world but also provide relief to hardworking industrial workers.
Meanwhile, Senator Kauda Babar withdrew the bill further to amend the Federal Board of Revenue Act 2007 [The Federal Board of Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2020].
Moreover, as many as seven private member bills including the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the State Bank of Pakistan (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Amendment of Article 37), the Islamabad Capital Territory Waqf Properties (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Protection of Journalist Bill, 2021, the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (Amendment of Articles 111,140, 260 and 275) were introduced in the House.
The bills were introduced by Mushtaq Ahmed, Mohsin Aziz, Saleem Mandviwalla and Shahadat Awan in the house respectively.
The Chairman Senate referred the bills to the concerned standing committees for further deliberation.
Moreover, the House adopted a motion that the Bill further to amend the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965 [The Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2020] as passed by the Senate and transmitted to the National Assembly but not passed by the National Assembly within 90 days of its laying in the National Assembly, be considered in a joint sitting.
