HYDERABAD: The internet service of University of Sindh Jamshoro has been suspended due to non-payment as a result of which, online learning of over 17 thousand students have been stopped on Monday. The suspension of internet service also halted the entire system including LMS service, examination process, bank fee collection, college side admissions and the varsity’s finance wings, the university spokesman informed and alleged that it was because of non release of required grant from Higher Education Commission (HEC). The university management had received only Rs. 1849 million from HEC for financial year 2021-2022 as compared to Rs. 1947 million. He claimed that earlier Rs. 1978 million were received by the varsity management in financial years 2020-2021 and 2019-2020 respectively. In the month of June 2021, the spokesman informed that the university management had demanded the HEC to release a special grant of Rs. 500 million but despite the recommendation of the Federal Finance Department, the HEC did not release the said special grant causing financial crunch and suspension of internet service. The university spokesman informed that the varsity management has requested the Sindh Chief Minister to take notice over the financial crisis of the university and announce a special package so that the management could overcome the crisis. If the provincial government failed to release a special grant, the academic activities in the campuses as well as hostel and transport services could be affected, the spokesman added.
