LAHORE: 114 students from various schools, colleges and universities have been trained as life savers and rescue scouts in a Rescue scouts summer camp organized by the Community Safety Wing of the Service at Emergency Services Academy here on Friday.
The Rescue Scouts were trained through practical demonstration of essential lifesaving skills like CPR and bleeding control, first-aid, fire safety, road safety, health and hygiene and clean and green Pakistan.
The Secretary Emergency Services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, witnessed the demonstrations of week-long training and participated in plantation activity with students. Speaking at the closing ceremony, he congratulated the participants on successful completion of the rescue scouts summer camp. Dr Rizwan Naseer took a promise from the participants to always drive their motorbikes in the left lane with speed under 50 km/h to avoid accidents. He said that an accident is occurring in every 1.28 minute in Punjab and 83% road traffic crash victims are associated wi
th motorbikes. He also motivated students to develop community emergency response teams (CERTs) in their areas and train them to save lives and promote safety.
The Secretary along with Head of Community Safety and Information, Ms Deeba Shahnaz, her team of the summer camp and with students planted plants as a chief guest and students also exhibited lifesaving skills learnt during the summer camp.
Earlier, the Head of Community Safety and Information Ms. Deeba Shahnaz apprised the Secretary that total 114 students participated in rescue scouts summer camp and they have been trained by community instructors through practical sessions on different modules including essential lifesaving skills of CPR and bleeding control, first-aid, fire safety, road safety, health and hygiene and clean and green Pakistan. The participants of the camp have also been provided exposure of height rescue techniques and swimming on purpose-built simulators established in Emergency Services Academy. She also explained that
55 Rescue Scouts were trained in previous batches and 114 were trained in current training batch. She appreciates the efforts of all community instructors to made this summer camp successful and congratulated all participants on successful completion of the summer camp.
