Lahore: A local court on Wednesday sent a 17-year-old boy to jail on 14-day judicial remand in a case of allegedly asking an artificial intelligence (AI) tool about ways to poison his father.
Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo heard the case at the Lahore District Kachehri.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) produced the teenager before the court after completing his three-day physical remand.
The investigation officer told the court that further physical remand was not required.
At this stage, the court questioned whether the boy’s father had any objection to the proceedings.
The investigating officer told the court that the father had no objection.
After hearing the arguments, the court sent the teenager to jail on 14-day judicial remand and directed the authorities to produce him before the court upon expiry of the remand period.
The NCCIA had registered the case against the teenager. The teenager allegedly used an AI system to seek information about the preparation and administrat
ion of poison. Investigators also reportedly discovered that he had set up a small laboratory at his home.
The case came to the attention of Pakistani authorities after they received intelligence from a foreign source. Acting on the information, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) launched an investigation and traced the alleged online activity to the teenager in Bahawalpur.
