Peshawar: Rescue 1122 Lower Chitral safely evacuated more than 200 stranded passengers after flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains blocked the Drosh-Ashirat Road at several locations in Lower Chitral.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, torrential rains caused flash floods and mudslides, leaving several passenger vehicles stranded along the route.

Acting under the supervision of the District Emergency Officer, Rescue 1122 launched an immediate rescue operation and shifted all stranded passengers to safe locations.

The spokesperson said rescue personnel stationed at the Sheshi Koh and Bregniser watch points responded as first responders immediately after receiving the emergency call.

Additional rescue teams were later dispatched from the district headquarters to reinforce the operation.

Rescue teams continued relief activities for nearly six hours in the affected areas, including Kalkatak, Kaldam Gol, Sower and Ashirat.

During the operation, four passenger vehicles trapped in debris were safely recovered, while the safe evacuation of all passengers was ensured.

The operation involved 20 Rescue 1122 personnel, three ambulances and one disaster response vehicle.

Rescue teams maintained close coordination with the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the district administration to facilitate the restoration of the road and ensure public safety.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Rescue officials said the operation was carried out in a timely, organized and professional manner, preventing any loss of life.

Sialkot: Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali on Wednesday inspected ongoing beautification and development works at Iqbal Manzil and Allied Bazaar, reviewing the pace and quality of various projects.

During the visit, she examined the installation of cobble tiles, sewerage pipelines, entrance gates, neon signboards, building facades, decorative lights and other development works. She directed the concerned officials to complete all projects within the stipulated timeframe while maintaining high construction standards.

The deputy commissioner said no compromise would be made on quality and stressed that all departments should work in close coordination to ensure the timely completion of the schemes. She added that the projects would help provide citizens with a cleaner, modern and more attractive urban environment.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Naeem Bashir and Municipal Corporation Chief Officer Zubair Wattoo also accompanied the deputy commissioner during the inspection.

Faisalabad: Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Director General (DG) Muhammad Asif Chaudhry has said that comprehensive safety measures have been implemented across FDA City to safeguard lives and property of citizens.

He said that as part of these initiatives, strong protective safety nets have been installed inside hundreds of sewer manholes while new high-quality lids have been fitted on all manholes where covers were missing.

He said that the special campaign, carried out under the supervision of Chief Engineer Mehr Ayub and Deputy Director Engineering Talha Tabassum, prioritized the installation of these additional safety features in residential blocks, along major sewer lines and at other sensitive locations.

He said that a detailed survey of the entire sewerage network in FDA City was completed to identify all missing manhole covers, which were replaced immediately.

He said that the main sewer lines and other related infrastructure have been further reinforced to ensure the efficient functioning of the drainage system and to protect citizens from any potential accidents.

He directed the concerned officers to ensure regular monitoring, timely inspections, and proper maintenance of the sewerage system.

He emphasized that no manhole should remain uncovered under any circumstances and warned that negligence or laxity in implementing safety measures would not be tolerated.

The Director General further stated that similar safety initiatives are also underway in private housing schemes. All developers have been instructed to ensure that their sewerage systems, manholes, and covers comply with the prescribed safety standards and are structurally secure.

He warned that if any loss of life or property occurs due to negligence or inadequate safety arrangements in a private housing scheme, strict legal action will be taken against the responsible developer in accordance with the law.

Reaffirming the Authority’s commitment, the Director General stated that the FDA will utilize all available resources to provide a safe urban environment, improve modern infrastructure, and enhance the quality of public services.
