Lahore: Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has accelerated the process of improving its revenue system through enhanced tax collection, administrative reforms and digital monitoring. The decision to expand the scope of PRA has also been taken, under which 250 Enforcement and Audit Officers will be deployed next month.
Tasks will be assigned to officers to improve tax collection from sectors contributing relatively lower revenue and to enhance their compliance with tax laws.
These decisions were taken during an important meeting on strengthening the departmental capacity, chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra.
The Chairman directed officers to focus on administrative and technological reforms to make the tax collection system more effective, transparent and digital.
He said that with the expansion of PRA’s jurisdiction, the enforcement and monitoring system is being further strengthened from the divisional level down to the district level.
He directed that effective monitoring and enforcement actions against fraudulent practices in tax payments should be further strengthened.
The PRA Chairman said that deployment of new officers in the Enforcement and Audit Wings would help improve administrative affairs and contribute to increased revenue collection.
He said that the Digital Central Monitoring Cell would digitally scrutinize records of various service sectors, helping identify tax fraud, discrepancies and possible misappropriation.
He further emphasized that the use of modern digital systems is essential for identifying possible irregularities in digital and cash payments as well as discrepancies and manipulation in business records.
He said that the Sahulat Smart App is providing facilities for invoice verification, receipt checking and reporting of illegal or fraudulent receipts.
He directed that the awareness campaign should be intensified to educate taxpayers about obtaining genuine tax receipts and verifying receipts through QR codes.
