Sukkur: Prominent political and social leader, Syed Shafqat Ali Shah, has extended his congratulations to Sumbul Siddiqui from Karachi and Burhan Azeem from Burewala on their election as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

In a statement on Sunday, Syed Shafqat Ali Shah said that the successive successes of Pakistani-origin Muslims in American politics were a matter of great pride, according to international media reports. He noted that for the first time in Cambridge’s history, a Pakistani-origin American couple had been elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor, marking a significant milestone not only for the Pakistani community in the US but also for other minorities.

This is a great honor for Pakistan and its people, he said and added that Burhan Azeem had become the youngest Deputy Mayor of the city, while Sumbul Siddiqui had set a record by being elected Mayor for the third consecutive term.

He hailed that the Pakistani community in the US and Pakistan was celebrating this historic achievement with great joy and pride.
