Islamabad: A cylinder blast in Sector G-7/2 claimed 6 lives and damaged 4 houses after an explosion inside a house where a wedding ceremony was underway, officials confirmed.
Guests were present at the time of the incident, which led to multiple deaths and injuries, while rescue teams completed operations and authorities launched an investigation into the cause, said the spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration here on Sunday.
Officials said the death toll from the cylinder blast has risen to six.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG) Sahibzada Muhammad Yousaf confirmed the figures and stated that all victims trapped under the debris have been recovered. The incident occurred inside a residential house in G-7/2, where wedding functions were being held.
According to officials, the blast took place in a house where guests had gathered for a wedding. Sahibzada Muhammad Yousaf said several people were inside the house when the cylinder exploded. He confirmed that both the groom and the bride were among those who lost their lives. Other victims included family members and guests attending the ceremony.
Authorities stated that the impact of the blast extended beyond the main house. As a result of the explosion, a total of four houses were affected. Walls and roofs of nearby houses suffered damage, and household items were buried under debris. Residents of the affected houses were evacuated to ensure safety during rescue and inspection work.
Emergency services reached the site soon after the incident was reported. Rescue teams began operations to remove debris and search for survivors. Officials said the rescue operation continued until all persons trapped under the rubble were taken out. Injured individuals were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
After the completion of the rescue operation, authorities started a detailed checking process at the site. Sahibzada Muhammad Yousaf said K-9 units were deployed to assist in inspecting the debris. Modern equipment was also used to ensure that no person remained trapped and that the area was clear of any further risk. Officials said the checking process is ongoing as a safety measure.
The ADC General confirmed that a formal investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the cylinder blast. Officials said the inquiry will examine the condition and use of the gas cylinder, as well as other possible factors that may have led to the explosion. Statements from witnesses, residents, and family members are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Following the incident, law enforcement personnel and district administration officials remained present in the area to manage the situation and support affected families. Utility services were temporarily disrupted during rescue and clearance work but were restored after the area was secured.
Officials urged citizens to take precautionary measures while using gas cylinders in homes, especially during gatherings and events. They stressed the importance of proper handling and regular checks to prevent similar incidents.
