ABBOTTABAD:The Abbottabad Traffic Police and COMSATS University Abbottabad have joined hands to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve traffic flow, address congestion and find permanent solutions to the city’s growing traffic problems.

On the directives of Regional Police Officer Hazara Jahanzaib Nazir Khan and District Police Officer Abbottabad Haroon Rashid Khan, SSP Traffic Abbottabad Muhammad Suleman Khan held a meeting with university faculty members, accompanied by Professor Syed Ghiasuddin Shah, In-charge of the Student Startup Business Centre, to discuss practical measures for improving the city’s traffic system.

The meeting was attended by Professor Dr Usman Ayub, Head of the Department of Management Sciences, Professor Tauqeer Shams, Dr Yaseen, Dr Abida, Syed Ibrahim, DSP Traffic Circle Mandian Tufail Khan and university students. Participants discussed traffic congestion, identified obstacles to smooth traffic flow and proposed measures to improve commuting facilities for citizens.

It was agreed that students from the Engineering Department of COMSATS University would assist in collecting data on traffic volume and vehicle movement on various city roads. The data would serve as the basis for a comprehensive traffic management plan, including the removal of unnecessary U-turns, construction of new U-turns where required and consideration of one-way traffic arrangements on link roads where necessary.

The participants also stressed the need to identify other factors contributing to traffic congestion and recommend effective measures to address them. The initiative aims to introduce a sustainable traffic management system and resolve the city’s traffic problems through data-driven planning rather than temporary arrangements.
