ISLAMABAD:Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has secured the second position in “Plastic Waste Management” competition, organized by Unilever Pakistan and SEED under the ‘Pakistan Research Program’.
Mahnoor Shirin and Fatiya Tariq, both students of BS Chemistry at AIOU, were awarded second position among 26 teams representing 11 universities from across the country.
A function was organized by the Department of Chemistry at AIOU to appreciate the talented students.
Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof Dr. Irshad Ahmed Arshad presided over the event while Chairperson, Chemistry Department, Dr. Uzma Younis hosted the event.
Chairperson, Biology Department, Dr. Hina Fatima, Chairperson, Department of Nutritional Sciences and Environmental Design, Dr. Hajra Ahmed, Kamal Nasir, and other faculty members also attended the event.
Dr. Irshad Ahmed Arshad emphasized that Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) placed a great emphasis on research and innovation.
He added that the university’s students were very talented, and that the science faculty was well-equipped with modern laboratories that were even used by students from other universities in Islamabad.
Dr. Irshad highlighted that AIOU was the only university in the country that offered merit scholarships to its students as well as fee refunds for those who achieved 80% marks.
Dr. Uzma Younis mentioned that the Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Irshad Ahmad Arshad, supported all our initiatives.
She also stated that the Vice Chancellor AIOU, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, provided grants for the student projects, which allowed them to participate in competitions.
Dr. Uzma Younis congratulated the prize-winning students, highlighting that their talent was a source of pride for the university.
