RAWALPINDI:Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Tuesday foiled a bid to smuggle imported costly goods worth Rs 1.5 billion.
According to an ANF Headquarters spokesman, the ANF Port Control Unit team during an operation at Karachi International Container Terminal foiled an attempt to smuggle oil used in aeroplanes and a large quantity of expensive electronic items.
He informed that the ANF team acting on a tip-off conducted a raid and checked a container on suspicion of drug smuggling. A large number of non-custom items were recovered from the container, he added.
The costly imported items were being smuggled to Pakistan under the guise of household items and commodities. Laptops, electronic cigarettes, watches, hard drives, tablets, gutka pan masala and other items were recovered from the container, he said.
More than 500 bottles of oil and chemicals used in aeroplanes were also recovered from the container.
The spokesman further informed that the container had been handed over to the customs authorities for further legal action.
