Peshawar:: Awami National Party (ANP) president Aimal Wali Khan has strongly opposed the proposed amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act, saying concentration of powers in the hands of one individual would create further problems instead of improving the police system.
In a statement issued here, Aimal Wali said ANP was the only political party that had opposed the KP Police Act in 2017.
He said the proposed amendments appeared to be inconsistent with legal requirements and could be struck down if challenged before a court.
He questioned the legal advice being provided to the provincial government and asked who was advising it on the proposed changes.
He said that at the time of the Police Act’s approval, the PTI leader had claimed that the police would be freed from political influence. However, he added, the current steps had raised questions about those claims.
