APHC calls for implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir

Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:Mushtaq Ahmad Butt, former Information Secretary of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has called for the implementation of United Nations resolutions on Kashmir, saying a just settlement of the dispute is essential for lasting peace in South Asia.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Butt said the Kashmiri people had been awaiting the exercise of their internationally recognised right to self-determination for nearly eight decades.

He urged the United Nations to intensify efforts to fulfil its commitments and facilitate a peaceful, just and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

Butt stressed that the political future of the Kashmiri people should be determined in accordance with their wishes and aspirations.

He said the use of military power could not suppress the legitimate aspirations of Kashmiris and called for an end to the prolonged deadlock over the dispute.

The APHC maintained that lasting peace in South Asia was not possible without justice for Kashmir.

He urged the international community to support the implementation of UN resolutions to ensure a just settlement of the dispute.
