Lahore:An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday sent 129 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, involved in the October 5 violence, to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
Earlier, the police produced the accused workers before ATC Judge Irfan Haider and sought their physical remand. The police submitted that the custody of the accused was required for recovery and investigations.
In response, the counsel for the accused opposed the remand plea and requested the court to discharge their clients.
However, after hearing the arguments of both parties, the court declined the plea for physical remand and sent the accused to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. The court ordered their production upon the expiry of the remand term.
Mussarat Jamshaid Cheema and PTI Lahore secretary general Owais Younus were among the accused.
Islampura police, Masti Gate police, Lari Adda police, and Shafiqabad police had produced 16, 27, 45, and 30 accused respectively for remand after registration of cases against them.
