AUP starts BS in Development Studies

PESHAWAR: The Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Agriculture Peshawar (AUP) has started a new degree program for BS Development Studies

Director IDS Professor Dr. Inayatullah Jan and his team thanked the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jahan Bakht and the Syndicate members for approving the degree programme.

Dr. Inayatullah said that Development Studies is an emerging social, economic, political, cultural, environmental and gender-oriented field.

The course covers several interrelated subjects such as economics, sociology, political science, gender studies, ecology, statistics, social science research, and others.

This course is designed in response to development needs at local, national, regional and global levels.

It would enable graduates to develop the theoretical, conceptual and analytical skills needed to understand the process of socio-economic development and the challenges it faces, he said.

This course is important for development workers and practitioners, social workers, social science researchers, development consultants, administrators, policymakers, and academics.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates would have a better understanding of contemporary development issues and the role of communities, civil society, the private sector and government agencies in addressing these issues.

Dr. Inayatullah said this study is a market-based field therefore, graduates have great career opportunities in development agencies, donor agencies, national and international NGOs, private sector, government institutions, and educational institutions.

In their practical life, Development Studies graduates would be able to play a key role in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda at the national and global levels.

He further said that many new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes have been started during the tenure of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jahan Bakht and the university is on the path of further development under his leadership.
