Rescue 1122 Murree manages 4, 087 emergency calls, assists over 4, 200 victims in July


Rawalpindi: The emergency service provided pre-hospital care and transport to 4, 202 individuals across Murree and Kotli Sattian, treating 2, 150 victims on-site and transferring 1, 741 injured persons to district health facilities. Critical care units additionally safely shifted 288 high-risk patients from local hospitals to tertiary care centers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad under the specialized Patient Transfer Service.



The monthly operational audit registered 2, 932 medical emergencies, 285 fall incidents, 246 road traffic accidents, 13 dead body transfers, seven structure collapses, six fire outbreaks, and two water rescue operations, while confirming 23 fatalities across various incidents.



The performance stats formally released by District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Murree Engr. Kamran Rasheed on Saturday, detailing the monthly response data managed through the district command and control center.



Engr. Kamran Rasheed emphasized that rescue crews, motorbikes, and ambulance units remain deployed across high-density tourist hubs to maintain rapid response times and uninterrupted emergency coverage throughout the region.

Abbasi explores Turkish technology partnership to modernise Pakistan Railways


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi Saturday visited TÜRASAS, Sakarya and ASELSAN, where he explored opportunities for technology transfer, joint manufacturing and digital transformation aimed at modernising Pakistan Railways.

Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the minister reviewed advanced railway technologies, manufacturing facilities and digital systems being used by the two Turkish organisations, said a news release.

During the visit, Turkish Deputy Minister of Transport Osman Boyraz, TÜRASAS Director General Selim Koçbay, TCDD Tasimacilik Director General Ufuk Yalçin, the Deputy Governor of Sakarya and senior ASELSAN officials welcomed the Pakistani delegation and briefed them on the latest developments in railway manufacturing, signalling, communications and smart transportation technologies.

The delegation inspected modern passenger coaches, locomotives, Electric Multiple Units (EMUs), Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs), freight wagons and advanced production systems.

It
also visited research and development centres, quality control facilities and modern railway infrastructure units.

The two sides discussed cooperation in technology transfer, joint manufacturing and the modernisation of Pakistan Railways’ rolling stock.

They also explored collaboration in advanced signalling, telecommunications, cybersecurity, automated train control systems and intelligent railway technologies.

The discussions included proposals to upgrade the Islamabad Carriage Factory and Pakistan Railways’ workshops with modern technologies and to promote local manufacturing and production of electronic railway equipment.

Speaking on the occasion, Hanif Abbasi said the digital transformation of Pakistan Railways, modern traffic management, fibre-optic communication systems and safe railway operations were among the government’s top priorities.

He said Pakistan Railways was being transformed into a more efficient, secure and competitive organisation through the adoption of modern technologies.

The mi
nister said advanced railway technology was essential for the successful implementation of the ML-1 and ML-3 projects as well as the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) freight corridor.

He said that internationally recognised signalling and communication systems would strengthen regional connectivity and improve freight operations.

Both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in engineers’ training, exchange of technical expertise, research, cybersecurity and human resource development, expressing confidence that the partnership would significantly strengthen the technical and institutional capacity of Pakistan Railways.

Hanif Abbasi said Trkiye as an important strategic technology partner in the modernisation and industrial development of Pakistan Railways and reaffirmed the commitment of both brotherly countries to expand long-term cooperation in railway technology, investment and regional connectivity.

CM’s aide announces Rs. one million each for families of Spin Karez victims


Shangla: Provincial Minister for Minerals, Arif Ahmadzai on Saturday visited various areas of Shangla including Mian Kale Pirabad and announced Rs. one million each for families of miners died in Spin Karez mine incident.



He visited various areas of Shangla and offered condolences to families of laborers. He said that provincial government stands beside families of victims in this time of duress and added that families of laborers would be provided needed assistance and help.



He said that thorough probe would be launched into the incident to identify reasons and factors behind the mishap. He said that punitive action would be taken against those whose irresponsibility triggered the incident leading to death of miners.

ERC holds ninth review of monsoon preparedness


Islamabad: The federal government’s Emergency Response Committee (ERC) on Saturday held its ninth daily review meeting at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) in Islamabad to assess the country’s preparedness, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts, with Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal directing all agencies to maintain a high state of readiness and speed up assistance to affected communities.



The meeting, chaired via video link by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, was attended by Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr Musadik Masood Malik, Federal Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Punjab Health and Emergency Services Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, chief secretaries, NDMA chairman, senior federal and provincial officials, and disaster management authorities.



The NDMA briefed the committee on the latest monsoon situation, including casualties, damage to infrastructure, ongoing rescue and relief operations, and rehabilitation efforts in affected areas.



The committee was also informed about the flood situation triggered by Friday’s heavy rains in different parts of the country and the response by federal, provincial and district authorities to protect vulnerable communities and ensure timely emergency assistance.



Officials presented the latest hydrological outlook, warning that further rainfall is expected in northern and central Pakistan, while isolated to scattered showers are also likely in southeastern Sindh, raising the risk of additional flooding.



The NDMA also updated participants on humanitarian assistance being coordinated with national and international partners to support relief operations in flood hit areas.



The committee reviewed the response of federal ministries, provincial governments and district administrations, appreciated rescue and restoration efforts, and stressed the need for continued coordination among all stakeholders to deal with any emerging emergency.



Concluding the meeting, Prof Ahsan Iqbal directed all concerned departments to sustain operational momentum, strengthen coordination, maintain proactive preparedness, and accelerate relief and rehabilitation work wherever needed.

Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan resumes charge as acting governor Punjab


Lahore: Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan on Saturday assumed charge as the acting governor Punjab in the absence of Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan.



Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar would act as Speaker Punjab Assembly and a notification has been issued by the PA Secretariat to this effect.



Governor Punjab Sardar proceeded on a 10-day visit to Iraq and Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan will take over constitutional role as head of the province in the former’s absence.

Commissioner orders to deepen Budni Nullah by up to 15 feet


Peshawar: Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud on Saturday directed concerned departments to immediately execute emergency cleaning and excavation work along a six-kilometer stretch of flood-affected Budni Nullah.



During an on-site inspection of stormwater Budni Nullah situated on Charsadda Road, Commissioner issued strict orders to deepen the nullah by up to 15 feet and launch an aggressive anti-encroachment drive to clear all illegal structures from its banks.



Announcing key measures for a long-term solution to recurring urban flooding during rainy season, he directed concerned quarters that clearance, dredging, and structural rehabilitation work must begin without delay as soon as water levels recede, ensuring provincial capital was safeguarded against future flood hazards.



The visit was attended by senior administrative and municipal officers, including Deputy Commissioner Sanaullah Khan, along with representatives from Irrigation Department, Rescue 1122, Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP), and local government bodies.



Stressing inter-departmental coordination, Commissioner Mehsud said that clearing bottle-necks along primary drainage channel remains crucial to mitigating potential damages and ensuring a swift, effective municipal response during peak monsoon spells.
