HYDERABAD: An awareness session for rural women was organized in Tharparkar on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women in collaboration with the Social Cooperation Initiative (SCI).

According to a handout issued on Friday, the session aimed to recognize the valuable contributions of rural women to the development of families and society and to raise awareness about their legal rights, protection and available facilities.

Addressing the session, Assistant Director Women Development Tharparkar Muneet Kumar said rural women play a vital role in strengthening the country’s agricultural economy, social development and household systems. He stressed that providing women with access to education, healthcare, employment and basic facilities, while protecting their rights and empowering them economically, was a pressing need.

He said rural women actively contribute to agriculture, livestock farming, household responsibilities and other economic activities with dedication and hard work. However, despite their significant contributions, they continue to face various social and economic challenges.

Muneet Kumar emphasized that government institutions, social organizations and other relevant stakeholders should work jointly to provide women with equal opportunities, develop their skills and create employment opportunities through vocational training.

He also urged rural women to pay special attention to their health and undergo regular medical check-ups and necessary tests to maintain their well-being.

Other speakers at the session also highlighted the important role of rural women, stressing the need to protect their rights and empower them through greater access to opportunities and resources.
