SUKKUR: Program Manager, Action Against Hunger, Rukhsana Mubarak called on the Zonal Director, North Zone, Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) Sukkur, Zulfiqar Ali Abro at BISP Zonal Office here on Monday and discussed the bilateral issues. Speaking about BISP program, Abro said that BISP was the strongest and most successful social security program of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security under which, more than 8 million deserving families were financially supported.
Giving her a detailed briefing about the ongoing various programs of the BISP, he said that a cash assistance initiative of BISP provided financial assistance to nine million women heads of households under Benazir Kafaalat.
In addition to Benazir Kafaalat, 710 thousand lactating mothers and their children under two years of age are being supplied with food supplements under Benazir Nashunama to overcome malnutrition among them, he added
The Zonal Director BISP said that the Programme had greatly contributed towards uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the improvised and economically marginalized segments of the society, particularly the women.
He further said that a cash assistance initiative of BISP provided financial assistance to nine million women heads of households under Benazir Kafaalat.
Ms Rukhsana said that the BISP was one of the best social safety programmes of the developing world.
She said that such programmes of direct cash transfer to the most vulnerable segments of the society need to be replicated in other countries as well.
